Job Summary:

In this role, you will supervise a team of Mechanical personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve mechanical investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of mechanical components, team support and training, and project performance. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Planning, developing, directing, and participating in the day-to-day mechanical engineering activity on medium to large sized complex projects that require very major mechanical engineering effort, or being assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of mechanical engineering personnel assigned, estimating staffing needs, and scheduling and assigning work accordingly.
  • Providing the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and managing implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Maintaining contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project(s) and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.
  • Reviewing and making recommendations of the mechanical aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
  • Coordinating, when directed, with client representatives to obtain their approval of mechanical aspects of the work.
  • Reviewing and approving key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned.
  • Ensuring that assigned mechanical personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong frontline leadership with a focus on continuous improvement and team building.
  • Ability to manage conflicting deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working in multi-cultural environments.
  • Capable of interfacing plant operational and maintenance teams at various levels.
  • Deep understanding of engineering systems, calculations, applications, construction methods, and materials.
  • Proficient in engineering software tools and applications.
  • Familiarity with sector-specific design and execution practices, including cost considerations.
  • Knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards governing Mining and Metals operations.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
