Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. Job Summary:

This role is responsible for managing regional I&D operations and personnel, ensuring services and support is scaled to meet study and project needs.  The role focuses on broad engagement with regional management teams and the Mining & Metals IS&T manager to set regional goals and ensure best practices on complex scopes and projects.  The role manages the performance and timely delivery of regional I&D, automation, document management and digital delivery services.  It ensures a service delivery mindset, manages staffing requirements, and participate in regional planning and budgeting that feeds into business-level budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Managing and mentoring South American I&D staff to provide timely operations, services and best practices as strategies, staffing plans and budgets are developed for complex scopes and projects.
  • Working with the Mining & Metals IS&T Manager, digital delivery manager and innovation manager to define and support I&D goals, schedules, and divisions of responsibility for South America.
  • Working with BD, business and project management, IS&T management, digital delivery and innovation to coordinate I&D input into South America proposals, staffing plans, estimates and execution plans.
  • Establishing and supporting studies and projects, managing resources and service delivery through execution and closeout.
  • Reviewing and reporting on the implementation of standard I&D processes on South American studies and projects.
  • Working with project I&ST leads and managers to address and close out identified actions.
  • Identifying operational excellence and gaps in project IS&T execution, stays abreast of IS&T governance and information management, automation and digital delivery developments for implementation on South American projects
  • Helping South America business leaders understand IS&T cost and recovery models, cybersecurity strategies, trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Working with Mining & Metals IS&T management and global peers to review and negotiate contractual requirements and delivery of 3rd parties and software/hardware vendor license agreements.
  • Working with proposal, study and project teams to align plans with Bechtel and customer expectations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Industry experience gained through a recognised degree in a STEM-related field, and/or specialised courses in Information Systems, Engineering, Construction, or related fields, with 13-15 years of relevant experience and / or work experience in a STEM-related field with 17-19 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Broad knowledge of EPC industry and / or Bechtel I&D work processes and project planning methodologies to support study and project execution
  • Broad knowledge of EPC functional work processes, applications and data integration methods to a level which allows development of clear documentation and plans
  • Understanding of accounting principles with experience developing estimates and budgets and monitoring expenditures to support office operations, studies and projects
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including selection, development and retention of resources and delivery of timely and high-quality teamwork
  • Able to translate technical communications into practical terms for discussion with management and project teams
  • Strong ability to manage geographically dispersed project teams
  • Ability to articulate ideas and to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to prioritise team workloads and flexibility to multi-task in a fluid environment
  • Ability to partner with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives for South America
  • Ability to delegate assignments to subordinates to lead the work of functional area in the absence of senior management.
