Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of minerals is critical to allow the development of key components for clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. Job Summary:

This role will be responsible for preparing hydrologic/ hydraulic engineering calculations and reports produced for one or more projects, under the supervision of the hydrologic/ hydraulic engineering lead for Bechtel's Mining & Metals business. You will lead and provide discipline knowledge and information to multidisciplinary engineering studies, coordinate with others to identify the most appropriate solutions, and present the results to the project team, including external clients. As a mid-level engineering specialist, you will be required to exercise the corresponding degree of autonomy and engineering judgment with assigned tasks to ensure high-value results. You will be required to travel to job sites and participate in technical inspections as project needs dictate.

 

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead, prepare, check and/or approve hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and develop conceptual designs, studies and reports, mainly for mining projects, in accordance with applicable Bechtel procedures, industry codes & standards, and contract requirements.
  • Provide hydraulic and hydrologic engineering input to work packages such as water supply, slurry transport and handling, hydrologic analyses, stormwater drainage networks, hydraulic structures, etc., in support of civil designs.
  • Support one or more projects and studies executed worldwide, as dictated by need and availability.
  • Meet schedule and budget for the assigned tasks, while following Bechtel procedures and keeping high technical quality.
  • Manage the hydraulic and hydrologic scope of work for a major project or for several smaller studies, as needed.
  • Provide technical direction and assign work to engineers who assist on specific assignments in multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Seek input from and coordinating work tasks with other technical specialists, engineering disciplines, and project personnel, as needed.
  • Participate in and foster a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Actively participate in technical excellence activities, such as authoring technical papers for conferences, keeping abreast of technological developments, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Civil Engineering professional certification recognized in Chile, with major in Hydraulic / Hydrologic engineering, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in this technical field.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Hydraulic / Hydrologic engineering (preferred).

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Capaz de comunicarse con fluidez en inglés y en español, tanto verbalmente como en comunicaciones escritas (nivel avanzado).
  • Se valorará experiencia previa en un proyecto EPC industrial de gran escala.
  • Fuertes habilidades organizativas y de trabajo en equipo, habilidades para resolver problemas, una actitud positiva y deseo de innovar en los diseños.
  • Habilidades sólidas en el uso de programas informáticos especializados, tales como: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, Global Mapper, FluidFlow, programa de transientes hidráulicos, PIPENET, Flow 3D Hydro, y/u otros similares.
  • Conocimiento práctico de los códigos, estándares y regulaciones chilenos e internacionales aplicables en materia de ingeniería hidráulica e hidrológica (NCh, MOP, ANSI / HI, ASME, AWWA, API, etc.).
  • Capacidad para trabajar de manera efectiva en equipos cuyos miembros residen en varias oficinas distribuidas y cuya interacción es más frecuente por teléfono o correo electrónico, en inglés.
  • Buenas habilidades verbales y de escritura para comunicarse con el equipo en la preparación de informes, cálculos y otra documentación (inglés y español).
  • Proactivo/a en coordinar con otros para completar el trabajo correctamente y a tiempo, en un entorno multidisciplinario.
  • Disposición y capacidad para viajar y permanecer en los lugares de trabajo en asignaciones generalmente a corto plazo (desde unos pocos días hasta varias semanas seguidas).
