GIS Analyst / Pipeline Mapper

The GIS Analyst/Pipeline mapper will be required to use their GIS skills to perform pipeline mapping and design. They will be required to have strong GIS skills and must be flexible and willing to acquire pipeline design specific skills through on the job training.

It is expected that the successful candidate will begin by manipulating and managing GIS data for pipeline design projects. As their skills and experience with the pipeline design process improve they will perform increasing amounts of pipeline design work.

Ultimately their skills and responsibilities will focus on pipeline mapping and design. They will use their GIS skills to fulfill this role

The GIS Analyst/Pipeline Mapper will be required to perform work tasks in conjunction with other technical specialists, engineers, designers, construction, and project management. GIS duties including creating spatial location maps, provide spatial analysis of data, maintain databases, linear referencing, data collection, creation and dissemination. The GIS Analyst/ Pipeline Mapper will perform field mapping to support pipeline design and permitting activities and as well as construction support.

Initial Job Duties

  1. Work with various GIS and CAD data formats to perform data conversions, data editing, and topology clean-up.
  2. Provide technical writing to support GIS metadata and project documentation.
  3. Develop GIS deliverables, including spatial data preparation, cartographic maps, and GIS spatial analyses.

Future Pipeline Design Job Duties

  1. Alignment sheet format and creation using Bechtel provided tools and resources,
  2. Pipeline survey corridor selection
  3. Pipeline centerline design
  4. Pipeline construction corridor design
  5. Prepare site specific design drawings for pipeline road, railroad, and river crossings
  6. Preparation of data for various crossings reports and other input into permit application documents

Minimum required Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Geography, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on GIS experience, including spatial data editing, cartographic output production, spatial analysis, and spatial data management using the ESRI suite of software.
  • Strong understanding of geographic and projected coordinate systems, horizontal and vertical datums.
  • Demonstrated strong technical expertise in GIS, spatial data management, and related technologies.
  • Prior knowledge of GIS, GPS, remote sensing, and familiarity with GIS software including ArcGIS, ArcView, ArcInfo.
  • Knowledge of ESRI Model Builder and Python/Geoprocessing scripts.
  • Knowledge of CAD software.
  • Able to work on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Energetic and positive attitude working with multiple clients on a wide-variety of projects.
  • Familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Oral, written and graphic communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English and Spanish with the ability to write and present in both languages

 

Additional desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior knowledge of alignment sheet generation software including Bluesky products
  • Knowledge of the entire pipeline and pipeline facilities design/layout and route selection process including early site selection process, geotechnical studies, and right-of-way survey
  • Knowledge of all phases of pipeline construction operations relating to engineering, construction and field activities
  • Skilled in medium and large diameter (20” to 36”+) pipeline routing.
  • Experience coordinating survey teams to perform civil centerline surveys for pipeline, geotechnical investigations, and environmental data collection.
  • Broad knowledge of environmental compliance laws and requirements
  • Broad knowledge of government compliance standards
  • Broad knowledge of FERC construction permitting and approval.
  • Experience in gathering relevant detailed data for environmental studies in support of Resource Reports for FERC filing
