Project Overview:

Los Pelambres Desalination Plant - AD800:

Bechtel's joint Energy and M&M team is executing the Phase 2 expansion of the Minera Los Pelambres (MLP) desalination plant in Los Vilos, Chile, which will double production from 400 liters per second to 800 l/s. The expansion follows the successful execution of the INCO Project, which uses desalinated water to increase MLP's copper production.

The expansion will include:

  • Detailed engineering and procurement for the desalination plant, pump stations and related infrastructure to double production.

  • Development of an execution strategy and detailed EPC plan, delivery schedule and Level 3 capital estimate to support full project financing.

  • Possible early works on site.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Preparing construction drawings and sketches.
  • Leading preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construciton facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  • Preparing quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
  • Verifying commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
  • Ensuring zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
  • Proactively considering continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities.

System Turnover Coordinator:
For Direct Hire

  • Developing firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.

STR / Subcontract Coordinator

  • Reviewing and approving instpection test plans
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Land Designer, mainly in the Civil and Piping / Mechanical disciplines. Additionally, experience in Electricity and Instrumentation is valued.
  • Knowledge of Project Technical Requests (PTRs) to route and resolve Requests for Information (RFIs/SDIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Non-Conformance/Compliance Reports (NCRs) between the field, contractors, clients, and the central office.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Knowledge of design software SmartPlant 3D, Microstation, Naviswork.
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Familiarity with current industry regulations and quality standards.
  • Ability to use Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP).
