Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and performing high-level control systems engineering activities. Provides a review of and input to Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), preparation of Logic diagrams, functional block diagrams, and instrument datasheets. Possesses responsibility for the preparation of specifications, material requisitions, data sheets and selection of instruments based on system application requirements and the review of vendor drawings to ensure proper interface and compliance with the technical requirements.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer  is principally responsible for:

  • Prepares control system engineering reports for clients as required.

  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.

  • Coordinates control systems engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.

  • When delegated, provides technical guidance to other control systems engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.

  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project control system requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.

  • Mentors and assists more junior control systems team members.

  • Completes control systems documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

  • Performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phase of equipment, systems, or processes by preparing specifications and defining requisitions and subcontracts.

  • Reviews and checks the work of others as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

The Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, AND Specialized courses in electrical, electronic or automation engineering. Minimum of 8 - 10 years of relevant experience

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Networks and connects with senior internal and external personnel in their own area of expertise.

  • Minimal supervision with wide latitude for judgment.

  • May assist less-experienced team members.

  • Fluent Spanish and English level intermediate.
