Bechtel is seeking for a Contract / Claims Specialist for the Contract Management in Chile.  In the role you will provide principal support to the Project management team in the effective administration of the prime contract and Subcontract between Bechtel and its customer. Assists Prime Contract Manager and Project Contracts Manager by providing specialized technical analysis and administrative support.  Coordinates a wide range of administrative activities associated with Scope Changes; coordinates and monitors workflow and the status of various scope changes related to assigned area of responsibility.

 

Job Responsibilities.

  • With the project team, identify the contract baseline, including terms and conditions, specifications, drawings, estimate, proposal, schedule and other documents incorporated in the contract.
  • Establish and manage the Contract Requirements Action List identifying the specific contract actions and obligations of Bechtel and the customer and the individual responsible for each action;
  • As required, prepare an analysis of scope changes and schedule impacts for Project Management review
  • Support preparation of change orders to contract(s)
  • Work with Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Workforce Services Legal and Risk Management to ensure that (sub)contracts in gathering required information to analyze scope and schedule changes.
  • Participate in project related meetings, work closely with Construction, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls, and review project financial data to:
    • Ensure awareness of all project activities that may affect the prime contract;
    • Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement, schedule relief and claim avoidance;
    • Recommend appropriate actions to protect Bechtel’s interest and/or improve project performance;
    • Ensure compliance with prime contract terms and conditions;
  • Assist in the coordination of prime contract closeout requirements;
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of ongoing training to address prime contract management principles, (sub) contract formation and administration and identification of claims;
  • Establishes or participates in the formation of internal procedures to be followed in the handling and disposition of scope changes or claims.

 

Job Dimensions.

The role reports to and receives operational and functional guidance from responsible supervisor or manager. Keep regular contact and relationship with senior managers, department managers regarding the status of scope changes and required analysis and Legal and Risk management; and undertakes routine contact with supervisors and employees to obtain information required to resolve scope changes or other project impact issues.

 

Basic Qualifications.

  • Degree in Business, Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering, Construction Management or Cost Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Courses or experience in pricing, contract law, contract drafting, administration and negotiation of change orders, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience
  • Have the legal right to work and live in Chile
  • Spanish advanced proficiency
  • Availability to work or travel to job site

 

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of Bechtel policies, procedures and work practices is desirable.
  • Previous experience with EPC projects in Chile is desirable.
