Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for startup planning and activities on major projects. You will coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, and clients to leverage diverse technical team skills to integrate the startup plan. You will identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively course correct to ensure goals, schedules, and requirements are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a Startup Discipline Lead typically with six or fewer direct reports.
  • May have only limited work assignments beyond supervising others.
  • May be applicable to a PSUM on very small projects of limited complexity, e.g., solar PV, or on small PM Services projects where the role typically has 0 to 1 direct reports.
  • Typically, applicable to Deputy PSUMs on small projects (<$250m) or stretch assignment on a large project, Area Leads on large projects of moderate complexity and few stakeholders involved.
  • Responsible for startup and/or operations activities for an assigned area or wide scope on a small or medium size project, designated portions of a larger project, or multiple smaller projects as assigned.
  • Assisting in preparation of project proposals.
  • Coordinating, as directed, with project management, the startup related engineering, construction, and client activities as an office assignment or during startup, operations, maintenance or testing at the jobsite.
  • Directing the preparation of portions of or assists in the preparation of operations manuals.
  • Supervising and provides technical guidance to personnel assigned to projects or tasks within area of responsibility.
  • Estimating staffing needs and schedules on assigned tasks or projects.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning of Mining Plants.
  • Have experience leading Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning working groups.
  • Experience in reviewing and preparing Pre-Commissioning Schedule.
  • Knowledge of Procedures and Rules applicable to Pre-Commissioning.
  • Experience as a Pre-Commissioning Area Leader (or higher).
  • More than 10 years of experience in Pre-commissioning.
