Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.
Job Summary:
The role involves conducting field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects. It also includes leading the design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. The professional’s technical expertise ensures that the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”.
Major Responsibilities:
- Scheduling, conducting, or coordinating detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc.
- Participating in the design, development and modification of Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
- Designing structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
- Determining the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
- Originating and checking structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Analyzing problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.
- Analyzing and reporting on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.
- Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and changing orders.
- Completing Civil/Structural documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Providing assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
- Planing, coordinating, or preparing equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations.
- Preparing procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Career-level position within field.
- Considered skilled and proficient in discipline.
- Manage the Chilean Design Codes and American Design Codes (NCh 2369, AISC, ACI, ASCE).
- Manaje as user level Structural Análisis Software (StaadPro, SAP , Finite Analysis software´s )
- Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
- Design of a wide range of industrial structures including buildings (covered, opened), material handling structures, equipment supporting structures, building and equipment foundations (including piling), retaining walls, etc.
- Design in 3D environment using finite element analyses, dynamic analyses, advanced seismic parameters.
- Design using international codes and standards.
- Design using 3D analysis software (e.g. STAAD.Pro, Strand 7).
- Leading a small design team of engineers and designers.
- Cooperating with other functions (e.g. contracts, procurement) and creating scope of work for service and material requisitions.
- Completing technical evaluations of submitted proposals.
- Preparing discipline material take-offs.
- Interacting with broader project team including other disciplines.
- Working in dynamic environment to reach challenging milestones.
