Project Overview:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will participate in the planning, staffing, and budgeting of project expediting operations. You will distribute workload, monitor assignments, evaluate production schedules and progress, and develop procedures. You will contact suppliers, initiate follow-up, monitor quality, and prepare supplier evaluations. Your planning and problem solving will ensure expediting operations meet project needs. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Participating in the planning, staffing, and budgeting of project and area expediting operations for medium sized projects.
  • Representing Expediting at project team meetings.
  • Distributing workload to assigned project expeditors according to the experience and ability of the expeditor, the degree of complexity of the work and the urgency of the need for action.
  • Contacting suppliers to obtain timely submission of engineering data, and to follow-up on material acquisition, production progress and shipment.
  • Evaluating production schedules and progress reports from suppliers to determine if suppliers’ programs and work progress meet jobsite requirements.
  • Expediting Bechtel engineering for the timely review, approval, and return of engineering data submitted by suppliers.
  • Participating in pre- and post-award meetings to review and discuss schedules and potential problem areas that may impact required shipment dates.
  • Coordinating shipping arrangements or tracking requests with the project Logistics representative.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a professional degree (or international equivalent) and 8 to 10 years in Buyer and Expediter roles or similar functions in mining projects.
  • Verifiable experience in training, monitoring and administration of purchase orders, including continuous interaction with suppliers.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Procurement and Expediting processes in industrial projects, preferably in EPCM environments.
  • Experience in preparation and administration of home office purchase orders, up to the control of documentation, manufacturing, schedules and dispatches.
  • Ability to analyze and monitor production and delivery schedules, identifying risks, deviations and timely corrective actions.
  • Practical knowledge of coordination with internal areas such as Engineering, Quality, Logistics, Materials Management, Construction and Project Controls, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Negotiation and effective communication skills to interact with national and international suppliers and participate in project meetings.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and make decisions, with a focus on meeting deadlines, costs and project objectives.
  • Management of MS Office tools and corporate purchasing, expediting and supplier tracking systems (EBS/ETA; DSCS).
  • Advanced English, both oral and written, for document management and coordination with global teams and suppliers.
  • Participation in medium or large projects, working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, progress reports and risks associated with the supply and delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills, professional judgment and autonomy, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and support less experienced team members.
