Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Business Development Manager for the Latin America public infrastructure market, based in the Latin American region. The manager will become a leader in a fast-expanding team, as Bechtel builds a presence in the public infrastructure market across Latin America.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for devising the strategy, aligning internal resources, external partnerships and operationalizing strategy with target customers across Latin America. The successful candidate will be integral to impacting Bechtel’s business mission. Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recommending prospective new work in the area including strategic market development and penetration. Develops strategy and directs preparation of proposals and presentations to win new business opportunities in line with an ‘account management’ approach to its target customers across Latin America. Coordinates with functional departments in formulating winning pursuit strategies and leads proposal preparation and negotiations with customer to ensure Bechtel business objectives are met. Establishes and maintains customer relationships and strategic business partner relationships. Has a particular focus on execution planning and developing strong value proposition around Bechtel capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and collaborate through customer engagement plans to effectively communicate the value proposition to internal and external stakeholders. Tracking performance and continuous improvement based on data-driven insights will be essential in this role to optimize messaging and drive business growth. Willingness to travel frequently but not for extended periods to engage directly with customers is required.

 

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Directing the efforts and activities of the Business Development managers/representatives in maintaining, improving and/or building relationships with customers, prospective customers, potential teaming partners, and strategic/key suppliers.
  • Possessing deep relationships with customer counterparts and senior management executives in customer organizations and developing advantageous positions to gain prospective work.
  • Advising customers of new developments in the design and construction of their facilities and aids them in solving their problems.
  • Developing and maintaining a robust network within the industry community to keep aware of new business opportunities.
  • Conducting research of current and future markets for present and new services for the organization.
  • Developing recommendations for new services that the organization should offer and new industry markets that the organization should actively pursue. Possessing a deep understanding of the market and competitors.
  • Following up on jobs lost to competition to determine the reasons why Bechtel was not selected and monitors the competitor's project performance.
  • Directing the preparation of proposals, including obtaining engineering, estimating, procurement, legal, and labor inputs.
  • Recommending commercial strategy and pricing. Participates in proposal and pricing reviews and makes specific recommendations to senior management on request.
  • Participating in final proposal presentations and negotiates Bechtel responsibilities and fee with clients.
  • Directing the preparation of and obtains legal and management approval of contracts for awarded projects. Maintaining actively involved in projects through execution.
  • Preparing periodic reports on the status of active new business opportunities for organization and corporate management.
  • Formulating and recommending business development policies, plans, and programs for achieving sales and diversification objectives.
  • Providing after-sales services by monitoring and reviewing progress of the project with the client. Conducting customer satisfaction audits throughout the project lifecycle and reports to management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 18+ years of relevant experience or 22+ years of relevant work experience. Prior Bechtel and Finance experience required.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Prior Government / public sector engagement preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills including: English and Spanish verbal and written skills. 
  • Customer Engagement: Own and develop deep customer relationships; serve as the trusted advisor and primary point of contact. Act as the internal voice of the customer, providing insights across the full client organization. Demonstrate strong listening, communication, and emotional intelligence to build trust and influence stakeholders. Understand customer needs, buying behaviors, and decision drivers to shape strategic opportunities.
  • Performance Excellence: Apply strong market, industry, and competitor knowledge to identify and position winning opportunities. Think strategically about where to play and how to win; drive pursuit strategies to secure work. Lead outcome-driven planning by connecting complex inputs into actionable strategies. Demonstrate commercial, financial, and legal acumen, including contracting models, risk allocation, and funding approaches. Leverage project experience and organizational knowledge to develop competitive solutions. Maintain a strong results orientation, competitive mindset, and focus on defining and delivering a “good deal.” Anticipate risks and challenges proactively and develop mitigation strategies.
