Position Overview:

Note: This position starts in Reston, VA., then transitions to Roy, Utah.

This position is for a Senior Pipe Stress/Pipe Support Engineer who will prepare Stress & Support calculations and Revit 3D model input. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. The GBSD program is the weapon system replacement for the Minuteman III missile systems.  Our team is supporting Northrop Grumman and the USAF’s nuclear deterrence mission to modernize this ground-based leg of the nuclear triad. 



This position is responsible for direct production of design work by Bechtel as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work. 


For this position, we are seeking a Senior Pipe Stress Engineer that has the ablity to review pipe layouts and approve the support types & locations and place approriate data into the Revit model. Should be able to perform minor calculations pipe support calcuations as required where standard type supports cannot be utilized.


Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Essential duties include performing pipe stress analysis/stress review of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code where required.
  • Development & application of typical pipe supports and/or creation of pipe support calculations/drawings for engineered pipe supports as required.
  • The stress work includes the modeling of the piping systems to verify piping flexibility, stability and qualification of equipment nozzle loads.
  • Candidate should also be able to provide structural designs for pipe supports in accordance with AISC.
  • Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
  • Candidate should possess a knowledge of OSHA, NFPA and piping codes.
  • Knowledge & application of International Building Code, ASME B31.3 for piping, plumbing codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • Software applications to be used are AutoPipe for pipe Stress analysis and GT Strudl or hand calculations for pipe support structural design.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to review piping layouts & support requirements per ASME B31.3 and approve designs.
  • Hands-on experience using AutoPipe & GT Strudl.
  • Engineer - BS degree in engineering with 6-9 years of experience or in lieu of a degree 12-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • US Citizenship required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience using Revit MEP for placement of support locations.
  • Previous Bechtel project experience.
  • Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience.
