Solid Modeling Designer/Engineer

Project Overview:

Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Position Summary:

This position is for a Siemens NX Designer or Engineer to execute engineering activities including modeling within a solid model-based engineering environment.  The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

Considerations will also be given to other qualified candidates that have used other solid modeling packages such as Unigraphics, Creo, Pro/E or SolidWorks.



This position will be responsible for executing engineering design assignments within the Siemens NX project model. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in executing design requirements in the 3D solids model. The candidate will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the management and verification of the facility requirements. The position will be responsible for developing key engineering documents and must have a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to engineering and construction. In addition, the ideal candidate would have experience in an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project environment with an understanding of EPC execution.


Responsibilities include:

  • Executes design activities within the 3D solid model.
  • Engages with the customer to ensure alignment of delivery and design, and enhances communication opportunities
  • Develop 3D modeling and design packages
  • Assist with design configuration packages for configuration control and change management of the model
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team


 Basic Qualifications:

  • Designer:

Level One - AA/AS degree with 11 years of related design experience; or 13 years related design experience

Level Two - AA/AS degree with 15 years of related design experience; or 17 years related design experience

  • Engineer:

Level One - BS degree in Engineering with 6 years of related experience

Level Two - BS degree in Engineering with 9 years of related experience

  • Hands-on experience executing design engineering with Siemens NX modeling tools, or other engineering modeling tools or similar type software packages
  • Experience with 3D model techniques, management & configuration control
  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.


 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience with Siemens NX through education, training, or practical experience.
  • Prior experience with Bechtel Engineering procedures.
  • Prior experience in EPC project execution (Bechtel preferred)
  • Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF project experience.
