Project Overview:

Bechtel has been involved over the last 80 years in some of the world’s busiest and most complex airport projects, including Greenfield and Brownfield developments. In the GCC, we have held significant roles on King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat international airports. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide project management consultancy services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of a state of the art international airport in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

King Salman International Airport will have a capacity of up to 120 million travellers by 2030 and 185 million travellers by 2050, and the capacity to process up to 3.5 million tons of cargo by 2050. Bechtel will provide PMC services for three new terminals; Terminal 6 is a new build ‘low cost carrier’ – hyper efficient terminal with gross floor area of ≈450,000m2, capacity of 20mppa; Iconic Terminal is a new build ‘new concept’ terminal with gross floor area of ≈ 1M m2, capacity of 40 to 45 mppa, and Private Aviation Terminal and hangars for VIPs and business jet passengers.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Project BIM Manager the BIM Lead – 4D is responsible for developing the digital vision and implementing the end-to-end Project Information Management strategy, execution plan, and deployment for Aviation projects. This role requires deep expertise in BIM for Aviation infrastructure, ensuring that digital solutions are effectively integrated into the design and construction. The role champions the innovation culture on project and provides advice and support to project leadership team and customer regarding emerging technologies including proven innovation and digital solutions to support project delivery and customer goals.

This role is also fully responsible for 4D modelling and visualization, overseeing sequencing, process development, and documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements. Additionally, they will drive the adoption of best practices in 4D, visualization, and digital construction techniques to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

Major Responsibilities:

4D Planning and Modeling (primary responsibility):

  • Develop and maintain 4D models using tools like Synchro or Fuzor, integrating inputs from design, construction, and planning teams.
  • Lead the 4D sequencing program by linking BIM models with project schedules to support construction simulation, progress tracking, and reporting.
  • Coordinate and review 4D planning activities, including program reviews and activity plans, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
  • Report regularly on 4D model status, highlighting progress, issues, and corrective actions; support context modeling and digital engineering integration.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in 4D systems, workflows, and data environments.
  • Develop and implement strategies for integrating 4D modeling, visualization, and digital construction solutions to optimize project execution.
  • Support the PMIS team with presentations and training to promote effective use of 4D modeling for project outcomes.
  • Train and guide end users on interpreting and applying 4D outputs to support decision-making and delivery.
  • Assist with management of the project the Common Data Environment (CDE), including model federation, quality control of 2D/3D deliverables, and issue resolution with stakeholders.
  • Develop processes for model-based quantity take-offs to enable construction quantity reporting and forecasting.
  • Oversee and coordinate BIM activities across design and construction subcontractors, ensuring alignment in coordinate systems, templates, clash management, and model coordination.
  • Train and support project teams on BIM workflows and CDE tools (e.g., ACC, Aconex, Revizto, ArcGIS).
  • Conduct regular assessments of BEP implementation, capturing lessons learned and driving workflow improvements.
  • Act as a liaison between the customer, project teams, and IT to resolve BIM-related challenges and ensure smooth execution.
  • Provide operational support to BIM Coordinators, including BIM Leads from third-party engineering firms and subcontractors.
  • Support design and construction reviews, managing issue/action logs and ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Work strategically with stakeholders to align objectives, mitigate risks, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Prepare and present reports, documentation, and project updates to senior leadership.

BIM Management (secondary responsibility):

  • Develop, implement, and maintain BIM standards and protocols.
  • Supervise and manage BIM model development for all disciplines (including sub-consultants and vendors) to LOD 300, with structured data for future progression to LOD 400/500.
  • Supervise and manage BIM model development for all disciplines (including sub-contractors and vendors) to LOD 400, supporting engineering activities, and final delivery at LOD 500.
  • Assist with seamless information handover from Lead Design Consultants (LDC) to contractors, including:
  • Review of design stage gate deliverables.
  • Coordination to ensure LOD 300 models are clash-free and constructible.
  • Assist with federation of large BIM datasets 
  • Deliver training and support to team members on BIM tools and workflows.
  • Support BIM-based progress reporting and schedule validation for customer updates.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience​
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as BIM/CAD Manager/BIM lead leveraging or managing technology in design and construction(preferred).

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally on infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert-level proficiency in 4D planning tools, especially Synchro, and other BIM/GIS software for 4D implementation.
  • Solid technical expertise in a core discipline, with broad understanding of related disciplines—ideally in airport terminals or similarly complex facilities.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Revit, InfraWorks, Twinmotion, Unity, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Experience developing BIM templates, standards, classification systems, class libraries, and master data models on large-scale projects.
  • Familiarity with project delivery methods: Design-Bid-Build, Design/Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and LEAN.
  • Knowledge of Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms like ACC/BIM 360, ProjectWise, and Aconex.
  • Working knowledge of collaboration and data management tools such as Navisworks, Assemble, and CostOS.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural teams.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on integrated project delivery and industry best practices.
  • Self-driven with strong leadership and the ability to influence without formal authority.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to evolving responsibilities.
  • Collaborative team player with the capacity to guide and train engineering and construction staff.
