Project Overview:
Bechtel has been involved over the last 80 years in some of the world’s busiest and most complex airport projects, including Greenfield and Brownfield developments. In the GCC, we have held significant roles on King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat international airports. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide project management consultancy services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of a state of the art international airport in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
King Salman International Airport will have a capacity of up to 120 million travellers by 2030 and 185 million travellers by 2050, and the capacity to process up to 3.5 million tons of cargo by 2050.
Bechtel will provide PMC services for three new terminals; Terminal 6 is a new build ‘low cost carrier’ – hyper efficient terminal with gross floor area of ≈450,000m2, capacity of 20mppa; Iconic Terminal is a new build ‘new concept’ terminal with gross floor area of ≈ 1M m2, capacity of 40 to 45 mppa, and Private Aviation Terminal and hangars for VIPs and business jet passengers.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team of systems engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare estimates and work plans and manage implementation and performance reporting. Your oversight and expertise will ensure systems engineering work is completed according to scope, schedule, and budget and is compliant with Bechtel and client requirements
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, schedules, and conducts detailed phases of engineering work for the Systems Engineering on medium to large sized projects complex projects that require major system engineering effort, or may be assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit
- Prepares and provides oversight for the processes and procedures pertinent to Systems Engineering such as Requirements Management, Technical Risk Management, Configuration Management, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, System Specification Development, Compliance, Verification, Interface Management, Design Integration, Technical Reviews, Validation and Handover
- Performs technical reviews of contractors’ systems engineering processes and procedures, system architecture diagrams, etc., relevant to the project
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of Systems Engineering personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
- Maintains contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project(s) and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements
- Reviews and makes recommendations of the Systems aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering
- Ensures that systems engineers, scientists, and technologists supervised receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant Airport Special Systems experience or 17-19 years of relevant systems experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience with airport special systems including active data and voice networking, data centers, access control, surveillance and intrusion detection, passenger processing and resource allocation, dynamic wayfinding, aircraft auto-docking, foreign object debris detection, non-NAVAID airfield sensor systems, licensed and unlicensed wireless, and baggage handling systems
- Understanding of airline industry and international regulatory codes, standards and design criteria relating to airport design
- Experience with integration of airport special systems into airport command and control structures
- Knowledge of interface management and the management of system to civil and system to system interfaces
- Prior experience leading a team of engineers
- License or chartership as a professional engineer highly desired
