Project Overview:

Bechtel has been involved over the last 80 years in some of the world’s busiest and most complex airport projects, including Greenfield and Brownfield developments. In the GCC, we have held significant roles on King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat international airports. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide project management consultancy services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of a state of the art international airport in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. King Salman International Airport will have a capacity of up to 120 million travellers by 2030 and 185 million travellers by 2050, and the capacity to process up to 3.5 million tons of cargo by 2050. Bechtel will provide PMC services for three new terminals; Terminal 6 is a new build ‘low cost carrier’ – hyper efficient terminal with gross floor area of ≈450,000m2, capacity of 20mppa; Iconic Terminal is a new build ‘new concept’ terminal with gross floor area of ≈ 1M m2, capacity of 40 to 45 mppa, and Private Aviation Terminal and hangars for VIPs and business jet passengers. 
 

Job Summary:

The Senior Safety Coordinator reports to the Project ESH Manager. He conducts project wide ES&H initiates, including but not limited to: vehicle inspection campaigns, focused assessments of contract work site: work at height safety, chemical storage, traffic & pedestrian management, environmental inspections, scaffold, PPE, excavations etc. Provides technical support & review of client contactor method statements and risk assessments. #LI-AR2
 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H program and ES&H Management System, including aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments 
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities 
  • Maintains ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions 
  • Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly 
  • Identifies and coordinates unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel 
  • Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues 
  • Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention 
  • Coordinates incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports 
  • Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential  
  • Participates in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs 
  • Coordinates ES&H recognition programs 
  • Researches moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice 
  • Provides support to ES&H field and office personnel, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • College/University degree in a subject relevant to Management of ESH, construction or engineering from an accredited college or university. Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction industry and/or prior extensive work experience in related fields leading to a thorough understanding of the role requirements as listed.  
     

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Significant experience working with construction contractors to ensure related ESH standards are understood and complied with.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards as well as People Based Safety (behavioral safety) processes and procedures.
  • Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of safety and/or health subcontractors or consultants.
  • Experience in safety inspections/assessments during construction.
  • Experience in environmental monitoring and compliance inspection during construction.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and waste management, erosion and sediment control methods, and restoration techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders to make critical decisions where required. Able to communicate effectively when delivering presentations to diverse groups from senior managers to workers in the field, cognizant of the different learning abilities to ensure key messages are effectively received.
