Project Overview:
Job Summary:
This position is for a Field Engineering Manager who will provide oversight to ‘Build’ Contractor’s and responsible for Field engineering activities of a varied nature, requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering practices. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to deliver results. Successful candidate will have responsibility to provide direction to less experienced multidisciplinary Field engineers, or construction office technical or clerical personnel.
Major Responsibilities:
- Maintain project safety culture and enforce company safety policy.
- Leads the construction quality program on the project which includes quality audit and check points, FAT procedure and testing, site inspection for compliance with contract documents, approved submittals in conformance to codes and contract requirements.
- Provide constructability inputs during formation, bid, evaluate & award phases of assigned contracts.
- Represents Construction to analyze the contract general terms and conditions to highlight areas of risk such as ambiguities, conflicts, or deviations from the scope of work. As work proceeds, make recommendations to the Project on the mitigation of these risks; closely monitor and help remedial actions.
- Coordinates with Engineering disciplines, as appropriate, to communicate field data, perform data analysis and recommend resolutions to expedite surveying/metrology field conditions.
- Multi-disciplined field engineering responsibilities/familiarity with earthwork, concrete structures, mechanical equipment, underground utility installation (wet and dry utilities).
- Participates in pre-construction meetings and validates receipt and approval of pre-mobilization submittals.
- Oversees the discipline specific lead field engineers and assigned Construction Supervision Consultant’s field engineers reviewing and accepting technical submittals, inspection and testing, etc.
- Provide technical help to the preparation of Field Change Requests and Change Orders.
- Develops and deploys the construction processes for accepting completed work
- Represent the client in technical meetings with contractors.
- Monitors the contractor's execution for adherence to the principles of Integrated Safety Management System and to ensure the health and safety of the worker, quality, productivity, and consistency.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction or related discipline
- Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in large scale construction works in a contractor role, or a senior role in a Project Management Consultant / Delivery Partner
- Experience of performance management of contractors in relation to progress, quality and compliance
- Thorough knowledge of international standards and specification and codes as applicable (such as International Building Code, Saudi Building Code), including various safety procedures and practices associated with construction site works
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of process improvement tools such as Six Sigma program tools and methodologies is preferred
- Experience in KSA / Middle east / GCC is preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a positive work environment between all parties including the client, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
- Self-motivated individual with ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment, with a passion to take ownership of projects and provide sound technical leadership to contractor’s staff and construction engineers
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), can be the “face” of Bechtel by promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values to external partners including Client, Contractors and construction companies.
- Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors.
