Project Overview:

Expo 2030 Riyadh is a global platform where countries, organizations, and individuals will come together to collaborate. Under the theme “Foresight for Tomorrow,” the Expo promotes sustainable development, innovation, and transformative thinking. The event will be held from October 2030 to March 2031 and is expected to welcome over 40 million visits.

The 6 km² Masterplan outlines a comprehensive framework for participation and infrastructure at the Expo. The exhibition space, totaling 491,100 m² GFA, can accommodate up to 197 participating countries and 29 international organizations.

Working collaboratively with our customer, Expo 2030 Riyadh Company (ERC), Bechtel will manage the infrastructure program which comprises early works, utilities, and publicly accessible spaces like streets and parks. Our scope on the six-square-kilometer site will transition into a mixed-use legacy development to serve the community after the six-month event is over. The project’s master plan leverages international sustainability standards for urban afforestation, treated water, and energy sources.

Job Summary:

Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist’s primary responsibilities is to include the provision of GIS assist to the project team in alignment with client and Bechtel GIS strategy on the project. The role requires an in-depth understanding of how GIS technology (ESRI) can be leveraged to attain project objectives, and the ability to work across functions/disciplines to enable BIM/GIS use-cases.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop maps using ArcGIS Pro to convey geospatial information to construction, logistics, safety and other project stakeholders in a PMC environment.
  • Design, develop and maintain data within geodatabases, whether file-based, SDE or tailored for project needs. This includes advanced skills in structuring feature datasets, feature classes, domains, subtypes, and coded value lists to ensure data quality and standardization across submissions.
  • Coordinate with the project departments to develop end-user solutions, including needs analysis, requirements definition, application and database design, data models, application programming, quality control, user training, acceptance testing, and system rollout.
  • Managing GIS and inter-operability with other BIM/CAD tools (i.e., Revit, Civil3D, 2D CAD, etc.) to maximize GIS value-proposition throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assist the development of technical approaches and methodologies for assisting cross-functional process improvement by developing process maps, information input/output requirements and execution plans for the required tasks
  • Setup and configuration control of the project GIS system per project Exchange Information Requirements
  • Use GIS solutions to enable project sustainability initiatives including developing story maps, stakeholder engagement
  • Perform Quality Assurance Checks on suppliers to ensure supply chain deliverables meet client GIS requirement per the EIR

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 5-10 years of GIS experience.
  • Engineering Degree from an accredited university with overall 5-10 years of relevant experience in design management, related to infrastructure projects.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Developing and implementing GIS work processes and procedures
  • Using GIS and related applications such as Esri products ( ArcPro, ArcGIS enterprise/online,etc), GlobalMapper, FME, Geographic Calculator, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
  • Using and implementing GIS web services Deploying web-based GIS and GIS On-Line solutions
  • Customizing and automating GIS tasks using scripting and programming System administration of GIS and related software and training of GIS users
  • Understanding and awareness of the technology and toolsets required for information production particularly within the BIM and GIS technical domain
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills (oral and written
  • Proactive, supportive, questioning, challenging and result driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, changing priorities and work with ambiguity.
