Project Overview:

Bechtel has been involved over the last 80 years in some of the world’s busiest and most complex airport projects, including Greenfield and Brownfield developments. In the GCC, we have held significant roles on King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat international airports.

Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide project management consultancy services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of a state of the art international airport in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  King Salman International Airport will have a capacity of up to 120 million travellers by 2030 and 185 million travellers by 2050, and the capacity to process up to 3.5 million tons of cargo by 2050. Bechtel will provide PMC services for three new terminals; Terminal 6 is a new build ‘low cost carrier’ – hyper efficient terminal with gross floor area of ≈450,000m2, capacity of 20mppa; Iconic Terminal is a new build ‘new concept’ terminal with gross floor area of ≈ 1M m2, capacity of 40 to 45 mppa​, and Private Aviation Terminal and hangars for VIPs and business jet passengers.​

Job Summary:

The Interface Manager is responsible for managing interface between various contractors involved in project activities of assigned respective project areas, including establishing an interface management system and an effective relationship management strategy across key internal and external stakeholders. Is accountable for the monitoring and oversight of project and use of innovative thinking to overcome challenges and implement solutions which minimize disruption to the project, avoid time and cost overruns, mitigates rework in construction enabling effective project delivery. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall interface management of the project in ensuring the quality, cost, statutory, safety and environment issues and project scheduling requirements are met. 

  • Responsible for establishing the overall interface management system to help the delivery of the construction works, projects, quality control, management reporting, risk planning etc. 

  • Maintains effective project governance, processes and systems to be utilized throughout project. 

  • Coordinates with Delivery Director and Project Managers for the effective resource management, materials, and plan schedules. 

  • Managing, engaging, reporting to the Delivery Director on all key internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Responsible for planning of the whole construction interface process from inception through to completion. 

  • Responsible for preparations of interface plans that are underpinned and aligned with critical path of the region. 

  • Responsible to identify the interface, ensure the boundary is clearly identified in the tender document, ensure the interface handovers are clearly identified in the schedule, develop the interface management protocols for the contractors. 

  • Develop an understanding of the interface risks and how they should be best allocated and managed. 

  • Implement Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy, and ensure contractor’s compliance to the project ES&H plans, site security plan, traffic plans, emergency response plan, housekeeping, fire protection and jobsite work rules 

  • Lead the ES&H implementation activities, conduct joint safety inspections with Contractor’s senior staff and participate in the clients' ES&H programs 

  • Support in managing the contracts awarded by client and ensure that the contractual obligations are met by the contractors 

  • Manages and coordinates inputs to ensure continuous construction work front availability through review of look ahead schedules, commodity charts, resource charts, engineering deliverables, material delivery schedules and any other service requirements including contractor submittals 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A recognized bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant Engineering discipline 

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, or 18+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree 

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive work experience in construction of large-scale projects in a similar role, either in direct construction or construction management role 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Has proven experience and thorough knowledge in construction of large-scale projects. 

  • Thorough knowledge of international standards and specification and codes as applicable, including various Safety procedures and practices associated. 

  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of ES&H and quality management systems  

  • Experience in KSA / Middle east / GCC is preferred 

  • Must be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a positive work environment between all parties including the client, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle 

  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders to make critical decisions where required 

  • Self-motivated individual with ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment, with a passion to take ownership of projects and provide sound technical leadership to contractor’s staff and field engineers
