Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.  

 

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.  

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  

 

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30 pm to 4:00 am) and weekends as needed. 

 

Role Overview
Assigned to the project as a member of the Construction Field Engineering team, the WTP Turnover Coordinator is responsible for coordination of activities supporting the turnover of systems and components to Startup and areas to Plant Operations. WTP has approximately 244 systems that need to be turned over to Startup. The project also has 4 major facilities and various ancillary and sub-facilities that will need to be turned over to Plant Operations. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of at least one Field Engineering discipline, piping, electrical, mechanical, or civil. This position will also support the entry, scheduling, and closeout of punch items and acts as an interface between the construction and startup/facility management organizations.


Principle responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Scheduling, coordination and conduct of system and facility turnover walkdowns.
  • Participate in weekly or bi-weekly punchlist review meetings
  • Complete and track punchlist closeout quality verification documentation and ensure documentation has been submitted to Project Document Control for record retention
  • Work with Receiving Organizations to determine punchlist item priorities.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with Facility Discipline Field Engineers, Supervision, and Receiving Organization representatives to ensure timely completion of open work activities associated with turnover of WTP SSC’s.
  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters trust, communication, teamwork and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote a safe work environment and provide leadership implementing Bechtel’s Zero Accident philosophy.
  • May be assigned Field Engineering tasks as needed to support the project/facility.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in an Engineering discipline or Construction Management and a minimum of 3 years of construction or turnover experience; or In lieu of a degree, at least 9 years of progressive construction or turnover experience


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.  Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and software including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communications.
  • Requires ability to receive direction from multiple sources and effectively establish priorities.
  • Flexibility and ability to multitask required.
  • Must have the ability to access difficult or restricted locations and climb during system or facility walkdowns.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship
  • Familiarity with Bechtel’s standard applications such as TEAMWorks and Setroute
  • Prior WTP experience
  • Prior DOE experience
