Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

You will be working as part of the Mockup team designing the HLW Mockup Facility and managing the subcontracts associated with the design.  The ideal candidate will have solid experience in subcontract development and management, including SOW, and technical evaluations. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design. 

Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Establishing the primary interface between Subcontracts and Engineering.
  • Technical oversight of assigned subcontractor’s safety, quality, schedule, and coordinated execution of the subcontractor’s scope of work.
  • Supporting Subcontract Formation and BEA (Bid, Evaluate, & Award) Process.
  • Monitoring and Reporting Subcontractor’s Cost and Schedule Performance. Validating subcontractor’s monthly progress payments and invoices,
  • Coordinating subcontractor’s activities with work performed by others.
  • Monitors subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements.
  • Reviews subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning of charts, and material and equipment requirements. Monitoring and reporting the subcontractor’s daily progress.
  • Monitoring and inspecting the subcontractor’s quality of work, ensuring subcontracted commodities or facilities have met all engineering and operational requirements.
  • Oversight of subcontractor preparation of construction drawings, sketches, projections, and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
  • Verifies Subcontractor commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by Subcontractors.
  • Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for Subcontractor scope of works.
  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans.
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future. ​
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.​
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)​
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with nuclear quality and commercial practice standards is required.
  • Ability to provide clear and precise verbal and written communications with subcontractors, design engineers, and customer representatives is critical.
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of contracts proforma and the subcontract requirements prescribed therein is of extreme importance.
  • Knowledge of required engineering deliverables necessary for subcontract formation and execution is a significant qualification for this position.
  • Experience with submittal review and approval processes.
  • Recent Subcontract Technical Representative or Subcontract Coordinator experience in subcontract formation, supervisory, and/or management.
  • Previous WTP Experience
  • Recent Subcontract Management experience for EPC project.
