Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.


The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.


The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  


This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (day shift) or 5:30 pm to 4:00 am (night shift).  Extended work weeks and/or extended hours may be required or authorized to support the construction schedule.       


Job Responsibilities

  • Interprets design drawings and specifications.
  • Supervises field verification of materials.
  • Coordinates with the Superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules.
  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment.
  • Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
  • Plans and recommends procedures to be implemented by Superintendents to assure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
  • Implements controls over variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and that other corporate services are fully utilized.
  • Assembles installation work packages and creates installation and inspection records.
  • Inspects mechanical installations and insures conformance to installation requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance to Superintendents and Craft personnel.


This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.


 Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Construction, Mechanical Engineering or other technical discipline and 6 years of experience, OR
  • In lieu of a degree, 12 years of directly related experience.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Knowledge of construction activities as relates to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and technical database applications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Program and familiar with current industry standards.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment, knowledge of project specific environmental compliance requirements, general awareness of environmental laws, and awareness of government compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards, general awareness of local labor laws and issues, general knowledge of state, federal and local contracting requirements, experience working with and supervising and administering subcontractors.
  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
