Senior Quality Engineer - Software

Project Overview:

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

 

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

 

This position is located at the DFLAW Site (22 miles north of Richland), works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the position may on occasion telework. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30pm to 4:00am) and weekends as needed.

 

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.

 

Position Summary:

This position requires the ability to understand and interpret software quality principles, procedures

and criteria while working closely with Industrial Control Systems and Information Technology professionals. This candidate will guide others in the understanding and implementation of quality principles and procedures. Working as a part of the WTCC software quality team, plan and conduct independent work requiring discernment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of software techniques, procedures, and criteria to support the software quality program and apply to Industrial Control Systems and Information Technology Systems. Support discipline in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent recommendation. Perform work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts and assists in problem solving.

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Analyzes Software quality requirements and evaluates work processes
  • Supports internal audits associated with software
  • Analyzes user requirements and evaluates work processes
  • Analyzes existing software applications in accordance with the overall software quality program, including plant engineering
  • Reviews test strategy, test procedure, and test plan for project developed and acquired software applications and configuration management
  • Reviews software documentation for content and accuracy against software quality requirements
  • Evaluates and recommends software design and testing strategies, and configuration management strategies, and software metric development to assist with surveillance planning
  • Assists users in developing strategies to resolve software quality issues.
  • Perform software quality work activities

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level One: BS degree in engineering, computer science, information systems from an accredited institution with a minimum of 9 years related experience or AA/AS degree with 11 years of related experience; or in lieu of education, a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 15 years related control systems, information systems, or software quality assurance experience.
  • Level Two: BS degree in engineering, computer science, information systems from an accredited institution with a minimum of 13 years related experience or AA/AS degree with 15 years of related experience; or in lieu of education, a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 19 years related control systems, information systems, or software quality assurance experience.
  • Must be US Citizen

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Be able to obtain a DOE badge for access to Project Site.
  • Experience with software quality programs that conform to consensus standards, such as NQA-1, or other recognized software quality/software engineering standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes including
  • source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration.
  • Experience writing and reviewing work procedures.
  • Ability to in interpreting regulations and QA requirements in the workable procedures, guides, and instructions.
  • Skill in working with customers to understand their requirements and expectations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Understanding and practical experience with ASME NOA-1.
  • Software Engineering related worked performed in a software life cycle.
  • Knowledge of major regulations and industry codes and standards applicable to instrumentation and controls.
  • ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer or ability to obtain the certification within the first year of employment.
