We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

 

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

 

Position Summary:

  • Develops nuclear safety calculations, including radiological and chemical consequence calculations and modeling for aerosol transport and in-facility deposition, explosions, and fires.
  • Participate in and lead Hazard Analysis activities in support of the HLW Safety Basis.
  • Preparation of the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis including developing/defining controls and responding to and resolving internal and external comments.
  • Requires interaction with other engineering disciplines and operations personnel as well as the client.
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Develop plans and engineering studies to resolve technical issues.
  • Prepares Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) and Chemical Safety Management Program elements.
  • Leads multidiscipline team working to mature and finalize the HLW Safety Basis

 

Responsibilities:

  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, application of engineering methods and materials, and application of computers.
  • Broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and of principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Knowledge of current industry or regulatory codes and standards and study criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Understands Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and relevant Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level One - A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering, or other engineering field from an accredited college or university, and 9 years of applicable experience.
  • Level Two - A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering, or other engineering field from an accredited college or university, and 13 years of applicable experience.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  •  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Design experience with radiological/chemical process systems
  • Minimum of 13 years of experience with DOE nuclear projects safety basis development, or commercial nuclear power plant licensing or analysis.
  • Knowledge in nuclear safety/engineering.
  • Experience developing TSRs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·       Knowledge of WTP systems and processes. 

·       Professional engineering (PE) License in Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering or other engineering discipline.
