Project Overview:

We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary:
This position is for a Senior Control Systems Engineer who will prepare designs for systems associated with the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP), High Level Waste project. The successful candidate must have strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving abilities and a can-do attitude. This position is located in Richland, Washington. #LI-AA7
This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.
Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a small size project or assignment in support of a global business unitor staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
- Coordinates Control Systems engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
- When delegated, provides guidance to other Control Systems engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects
- Provides technical assistance to other Control Systems personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Control Systems requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
- Mentors and assists more junior Control Systems team members
- Completes Control Systems documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
Education and Experience Requirements:
- BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical sciences or equivalent degree and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
- Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in power plant or DOE facility design.
- Prefer an active (not expired) Professional Engineers (PE) License, or equivalent (such as Chartered Engineer).
- Current working knowledge of engineering automation tools (e.g., SmartPlant Instrumentation, ProjectWise, InfoWorks).
- Good knowledge of Bechtel administrative practices.
