Project Overview:
Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest. Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary:
This role will support design development of Civil Site and structural (concrete & steel) engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project. #LI-LM1
Major Responsibilities:
- Originate and check Civil Site and Structural (concrete & steel) deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models for earthwork/site and structural design.
- Review Civil/Structural and Structural deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models for steel and concrete.
- Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables
- Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
- Work with Civil/Structural/Architectural supervisor to plan, budget and schedule drawing and 3-D model deliverables within the discipline.
- Participate in project design/model reviews.
- Participate in constructability reviews.
- Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience or AA/AS degree with 7-9 years or relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
- Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum:
- Advance experience in the use of AutoCAD, Civil3D, Tekla and Revit or similar software.
- Work experience should emphasize Civil Site and structural design of heavy industrial type facilities.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiar with the provisions of ASTM, ACI, AISC, ASTM, and OSHA. Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
- Familiar with the methods of procurement and control of bulk materials.
- Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design.
- Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of Civil Site and structural systems of moderate complexity.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
- Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
- Ability to issue clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.
Preferred:
- Experience in the sitework, earthwork, roadway, drainage and structural design (steel and concrete) for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
- AA in civil engineering or engineering technology.
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt or higher or working knowledge of other process improvement programs
