Project Overview

 

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington State. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 56 million gallons (212 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The cleanup project is one of DOE’s most technically challenging and the largest undertaking of its kind—equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. The construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, high-level waste vitrification, and the analytical laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, and other support facilities.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • 3D modeling of piping and equipment in a 3D model environment,
  • Preparation of drawings/documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics drawings,
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference
  • reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines,
  •  Assists with plans and schedules and prepare/maintain design procedures, standards to
  • provide quality design documents,
  • Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.,
  • Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
  • Candidate should possess an advanced knowledge of piping codes such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1.

 

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Level One - AA/AS/Cert degree with 3 years of related design experience; or 7 years related design experience
  • Level Two  - AA/AS/Cert degree with 5 years of related design experience; or 9 years related design experience
  • Hands-on use of Bentley Microstation 2D
  • Hands-on experience using a 3D piping design platform and isometric extraction.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 piping codes

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on use of Bentley PlantSpace Design Series piping design
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience
