Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

 

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will act as the Lead for Mechanical Process System testing. You will provide knowledge, expertise, input, training, and consultative support for a discipline or process required for facility commissioning and startup. You will participate in work planning and packaging, turnover coordination, material management and quantities, quality control, and environmental safety and health. You will provide technical direction and assign work to engineers, technicians, craft or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks. You will be an essential resource for specialized technical advice. 

 

This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. #LI-EH1

 

Major Responsibilities:

Specialization & Expertise 

  • T he lead will be responsible for managing mechanical process system commissioning, including assigning systems and responsibilities to test personnel under his/her direction. This will require coordinating with mechanical, electrical and control systems disciplines within the startup organization to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility.
  • Provides knowledge and expertise in a particular discipline, subject matter, or specialized process required for CSU (e.g., chemical cleaning, steam & air blowing, meter and relay testing, process operations, nuclear HVAC systems, complex analytical instrumentation such as CEMS, ICs, etc. 
  • Supervises and provide technical direction or assigns work to engineers, technicians, crafts or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks. 

Work Planning & Packaging 

  • Analyzes assigned activities to determine the scope, time, and resource requirements 
  • Plans and schedules CSU execution activities including sequence and resource requirements for assigned areas of responsibility typically including complex evolution across multiple disciplines and functions 
  • Assists in the development of Testing Strategy and Execution Documents
  • Assists in the development of project proposals, schedules and budgets
  • Manages progress reporting and risk identification for assigned areas

Turnover Coordination 

  • Participates in Construction to CSU turnover walkdowns for assign areas of responsibility 
  • Interfaces with the Construction and Field Engineer as required to support component/system turnover
  • Interfaces with the Plant Management and Client as required to support component/system handovers 

Material Mgmt. & Quantities 

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases and prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment 
  • Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for CSU using procurement systems or other database programs as required 

Quality Control 

  • Assists other Startup Specialists in interpreting design information, specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements 
  • Performs and/or monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with specifications and compliance with test procedures, that work methods are undertaken safely and activities are supported to meet schedule and cost 

ES&H 

  • Identifies and resolves/elevates ES&H issues in the field and is a visible 'walk the talk' leader in good ES&H practices 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact closely and frequently with client management and operations and maintenance personnel while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness.
  • Must have experience in testing mechanical process systems (e.g. Utilities, Melters, Off-gas, and Boiler systems)
  • Must be able to walk at least 3 miles per day over uneven ground and be able to climb stair towers 75’ in height to access project equipment.
