Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State.
The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
Job Summary:
Assigned to the WTCC construction organization in a Measuring and Testing Equipment (M&TE) Quality Control position. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Ensure M&TE at the WTCC project are in compliance with procurement requirements design/specifications, nuclear codes, project requirements, and quality standards.
- Maintain the M&TE database and calibration via an off-site calibration service.
- Coordinate original equipment manufacturer and sub-contracted off-site calibration services.
- Coordinate the resolution of M&TE found out-of-tolerance.
- Conduct physical inventories and report results.
- Perform quality control assignments of a varied nature requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering/quality control practices.
- Determine the technical requirements for the M&TE, coordinates with supervision to determine the project’s need and prepares purchase requisitions.
- Perform surveillances and monitor work activities, ensure the technical adequacy and quality of work performed.
- Ensure M&TE work processes are compliant with project quality requirements and applicable regulatory codes and standards.
- Exercise professional judgment within the framework of broad guidelines provided by superiors.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- B.S. Degree in Engineering and 2-5 years of related experience or a high school diploma and 6-9 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
- Must possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of Construction Quality Assurance.
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
- Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and technical database applications.
- Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is required.
- Candidate should be a self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment.
- Candidate should have a good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as NEMA, NEC, ACI, AISC, ASME, as well as NQA-1 requirements.
- Familiarity with industry quality standards.
- Must meet the project requirements for certification of a Level II M&TE QC or be capable of achieving a Level II M&TE QC certification.
- Knowledge and experience of controlling, managing, and calibration requirements of M&TE on construction projects.
- Possess working knowledge of the Bechtel Work Process Procedures and the related Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Recent experience working in a DOE facility.
- NDE experience as a Level II in UT, MT, or PT.
- Previous knowledge in welding processes.
- Previously certified as an A&P (Airframe and Powerplant License).
- Experience in Powertrain Test Measurements and Diagnostic Equipment.
- Experience in operating and maintaining ground support equipment, common and special tools.
