Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30am to 5:00pm (day shift) or 5:30pm to 4:00am (night shift). Extended work weeks and/or extended hours may be required or authorized to support the construction schedule.
Job Summary:
This position is a national reduced status role located at the Richland, Washington HLW project. The High-Level Waste project (HLW) is a complex undertaking (mega project), requiring leaders with robust industry experience, knowledge, and skills to support successful delivery of mission objectives. As HLW continues to expand and progress towards 90% design completion and enclosing the building by 2027, developing and implementing project execution strategies required to enable a high confidence baseline to be established for the next phase of work (i.e., full completion of procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities) requires a task lead to provide matrix support and leadership across various departments, including engineering, procurement, and construction. This position reports to the HLW Completions Manager and oversees the administration of assigned scope, budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates actions to assure program / project objectives and schedules are met and work is safely performed within requirements and quality expectations. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Participates in the development of employees and future project leaders.
- Works directly with Construction Workface Effectiveness team to create and foster a great place to work environment across all organizations.
- Participates daily with HLW construction teams pre-job planning, hazard analyses, and compliant execution of planned work.
- Works with project training department to ensure compliant field training attributes are being effectively applied to professional craft and staff professional.
- Communicates directly with construction team members regarding problem areas, solutions, and supports customer engagement plan.
- Champions project team communication and employee engagement plan.
- Coordinates & ensures timely completion of task-based activities including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
- Oversees the implementation of processes to ensure efficient execution.
- Ensures corporate/project policies and procedures are fully implemented.
- Monitors performance by the vendors and subcontractors ensuring all work scopes are executed as planned.
- Ensures vendors and subcontracts meet contract requirements in product safety and quality plans.
- Participates in root cause analysis and the resolution of problems and concerns.
- Reports on a weekly basis, and as required, on progress and efforts to improve project safety, quality, and performance.
- Utilizes functional reviews and/or external experts to obtain feedback on project performance.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
- Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated experience in ES&H and Quality program implementation and execution.
- Strong team building skills and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, preparation of procedures and reports.
- Demonstrated skill in administration and supervisory functions.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- Previous experience on design-build project(s), root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Knowledge of Bechtel organization, directives, instructions, and safety and quality program, processes, and procedures.
- Previous DOE or DOD experience.
