Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state.  The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

 

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects.  Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with five major nuclear facilities – Analytical Laboratory, Effluent Management Facility, High-Level Waste Vitrification, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, and Pretreatment – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

 

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM.  WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.

 

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

 

Role Overview

The Temporary Power Group (TPG) operates within the Facility Management organization of WTCC and is responsible for configuration and change management of power to support both ongoing construction, commissioning, and start-up testing as well as the daily operation of administrative buildings.  TPG performs design, inspections, field support to both electricians and subcontractors, and develops work documentation for maintenance, modification, and new construction.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Prepare work packages, containing work instructions, designs, hazard mitigation documents, etc. per latest revisions of design documents, specifications, site procedures, and national standards and codes
  • Performing and documenting inspections of field work.
  • Provide technical support to the field personnel.
  • Interface with other disciplines/organizations.
  • Provide support for special projects and miscellaneous tasks as directed by supervisor.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university and at least 1 year of related electrical construction/maintenance experience.  In lieu of degree, at least 7 years of progressive electrical construction/maintenance related experience.
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 lbs., wearing safety harness.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E code.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Knowledge of Zero Accidents safety program.
  • Prior Bechtel experience and construction knowledge.
  • Prior government experience.
  • Familiarity with auto cad software like Micro Station.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks.
