Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

 

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

 

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  

 

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (day shift).  The selected applicant needs to be willing and able to work night shift (5:30 pm to 4:00 am) and weekends as needed.  

 

Role Overview:

Performs construction-engineering assignments of a varied nature requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering practices. Exercises professional judgment within the framework of broad guidelines provided by superiors. May have responsibility to provide direction to less experienced construction engineers, or construction office technical or clerical personnel. May specialize in a single field or area or assume a lead role in a specific segment of a construction project. On a large project, performs assigned activities in one discipline, interfacing with related tasks being performed in more than one discipline within a single area. On a small to medium-sized project, performs assigned activities in one discipline interfacing with other disciplines in all areas of the project.

 

Principle responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

The Construction Survey Technician’s duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide Construction Survey support to Lead Survey Engineer
  • Rod Person and/or Instrument Person on a 2 or 3 person direct-hire survey crew
  • Utilize survey instruments in conjunction with Bechtel survey procedures
  • Assist the Survey Engineer (Party Chief) in the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job    specifications and appropiate methods of performing survey activities
  •  Assist the Survey Engineer (Party Chief) in providing support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision
  • Partcipate in the implementation of the project safety and project environmental programs
  • Partcipate in the implementation of project quality control program
  • Assist in developing and maintaining all site survey data
  • Assist in administration of the survey work request program
  • Assist in providing Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records
  • Assist in performing verifications of subcontract survey control points and work
  • Fill in for the Survey Engineer (Party Chief) during his/her absence

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university in surveying or construction related discipline and 1 year of construction or surveying related work experience; or in lieu of a degree, 7 years of construction or surveying related work experience.
  • This will be a field position, must be able to do physical work.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and software including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Trimble, Digital Levels, GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Terra model, Leica Scanners, Cyclone, Trimble software, CAD software, and Starnet.
  • Familiarity with digital data work processes.
  • Coordinate Geometry computations experience.
  • Prior experience on WTP or other DOE projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment. 
  • Knowledge of construction survey principles. 
  • General awareness of environmental laws. 
  • Familiarity with 3D Laser Scanning a plus. 
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software. 
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
