Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

 

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

 

Full-Time In Office: This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Job Summary:

The External Assessments Manager will report to the Independent Assessment Manager in the Quality Assurance Organization and will support the maintenance, development, and implementation of the WTP Quality Assurance program. #LI-SB1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and training to personnel performing assessment activities and ensures that issues are properly controlled and documented in accordance with project procedures.
  • Provides direction and assigns, reviews and checks work to assigned oversight personnel and others who assist on specific assignments to ensure technical and quality requirements, management goals and objectives are met.
  • Provides input into the development of standardized metrics and responds to engineering, construction, procurement, and others who request guidance on implementation of quality requirements.
  • ·Actively promotes and facilitates a proactive line self-identification of issues, timeliness of action planning and closure, management ownership of actions and the implementation effectiveness of actions taken as demonstrated by non-repetitive issues, and organizational ability to learn.
  • Analyzes, identifies actions and recommends solutions to mitigate performance risk.
  • Prepares QA procedures and guides for approval in accordance with the governing procedures.
  • Reviews and reports on new or revised regulatory requirements and their impact on the established QA program.
  • Monitors project engineering, nuclear safety, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, operations, and other activities to evaluate the quality of products, activities, and program effectiveness.
  • Prepares and completes quality audit checklists and participates in quality audits of corporate/project quality program/plans including, as needed, pre-award assessments of potential suppliers and subcontractors as a qualified lead auditor and supervisor.
  • As an Audit Team Lead (ATL), prepare, plan, and perform audits/assessments.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
  • Specialized courses in engineering, procurement, construction, operations, technical, or quality assurance disciplines.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have an Audit Team Lead certification meeting the requirements of ASME NQA-1 or be certifiable within six months of employment.
  • Technical knowledge in one or more of these disciplines: Engineering, Procurement, Nuclear Safety, Construction, or Operations sufficient to comprehend the application of and relationships to technical and quality requirements.
  • Experience in supervising assessments and assessment personnel.
  • Proficiency in providing direction and on the job training to assigned personnel.
  • Ability to work closely with technical teams, senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders in developing and maintaining project system/processes.
