We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.  


Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.  


This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Relocation to Richland, Washington is available if applicable.


Project Electrical and Instrumentation Group Supervisor (EGS) Scope

You will be working as part of the Electrical and Instrumentation (EI&C) team designing the remotely operated equipment in the WTP process facilities. You will be responsible for managing discipline work process execution and assuring technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standard. You will be approving technical reports and studies and design documentation, calculations using engineering software, and specifications for equipment for the waste treatment process and supporting systems. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in system design and will be capable of developing design documents, equipment data sheets, and procurement specifications that incorporate the applicable design and nuclear safety requirements. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.


EI&C EGS Scope Position Details

The primary role of the EI&C EGS is to identify the process, nuclear safety, and other requirements for the instrumentation and control systems and facility electrical design. This work includes oversite of wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, load calculations, schematics, electrical equipment layout drawings, equipment and cable sizing, facility control I/O, digital logic diagrams, functional block diagrams, and development  of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control functionality for advanced process control systems. This position involves supervising other engineers and designers. The EI&C EGS coordinates within the engineering group and other disciplines in developing the detailed system design and equipment selection in a team environment.


The EI&C EGS resolves technical issues related to the discipline, including any required interface with other disciplines, groups, suppliers, and the customer. The EI&C EGS supports the associated safety analyses and hazards evaluations. The EI&C EGS supports development of the system cost estimate and schedule, in addition to ensuring the work is performed to the high quality standards for nuclear facilities. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors.


Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1 - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field from an accredited university or college with 9 years of progressive related experience.
  • Level 2 - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field from an accredited university or college with 13 years of progressive related experience.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Familiar with design of nuclear facilities
  • Familiar with process control system software development
  • Knowledge on electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts
  • Knowledge on logic diagrams, P&IDs, facility control systems, and instrumentation and control equipment layouts
  • Knowledge on electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment specification and material requisitions process, and developing procurement documentation
  • Working knowledge of VISIO CADD and/or PDS 2D
  • Knowledge and application of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards specific to Electrical, and Instrumentation and Control systems
  • U.S. Professional Engineering registration
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Planning and organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 1 - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field from an accredited university or college with 7 years of progressive related experience.
  • Level 2 - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field from an accredited university or college with 11 years of progressive related experience.
  • Leadership experience of teams of 10-30 engineers
  • Experience providing engineering support to procurement, construction, and startup
  • Experience in design of a DOE or commercial nuclear facilities, preferred experience in WTP
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards
