Position Overview:

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.


 The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.


This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30pm to 4:00am) and weekends as needed.


The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.

Job Summary:

This position is for a payroll processor working with the weekly Davis Bacon manual payroll for Bechtel at the WTP project. Internal contact with counterparts in other Controller groups, other employees regarding payroll or personal account matters, Procurement and Personnel concerning purchase orders, benefits and related policy areas. Some contact with division project personnel and cost engineering personnel regarding billings and financial accounting information. External contact occasionally with vendors, auditors, banks, workers’ compensation insurance companies and state employment disability offices in payroll matters. Duties will include but not be limited to: all aspects of Davis Bacon weekly payroll processing.


Principal responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

•  Maintenance of employee records as required.

•  Reporting of monthly Union benefits.

•  Setting up and maintaining of garnishment files and weekly payments for manual employees.

•  Reporting of weekly taxes to WTCC Finance tax department.

•  Verify hourly rates and hours worked on all manual personnel for accurate accounting to the labor distribution report and other departments as required.

•  Maintaining thorough and up-to-date records and reports as required for the Department of Energy.

•  Special projects as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

•  Maintaining of metrics for the department.

•  Maintains assigned segment of financial, accounting, timekeeping, or tax records.

•  Examines a variety of recording and reporting documents and summaries to verify accuracy and conformance with specific functional, corporate, contract, government, or professional accounting requirements.

•  Reconciles reports and financial data with other records on file. Points out less apparent inconsistencies and errors.

•  Prepares or reviews some routine and some moderately complex summary reports, financial statements, or tax returns.

•  Carries out assigned steps in accounting, systems, or financial analysis.

•  Participates in higher level accounting projects.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 1: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, with 1+ years of related experience. In lieu of formal degree, 7+ years of related experience required.
  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with 3+ years of related experience. In lieu of formal degree, 9+ years of related experience required.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship to obtain.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of accounting concepts and of generally accepted accounting principles as normally obtained from an accounting/finance degree in business and /or related experience.
  • Requires ability to properly analyze issues by developing and conducting accurate and timely research. Must be able to work well under pressure, and adhere to daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills, strong oral and written communications skills as well as interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative are essential.
  • Dependability, flexibility and confidentiality are a must. General knowledge of contract, union agreements and understanding the federal/state/local requirements in all areas related to payroll are a plus.
  • Knowledge of SAP Payroll system, eTrack timekeeping system, and familiarity with Bechtel policies and procedures are a plus.
