Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team and manage daily labor relations activities on construction projects, providing advice in the resolution of labor disputes, grievances, and work stoppages. Your strategic input will enable the industrial relations team to develop and implement process improvement initiatives that facilitate positive labor relations and prevent labor problems and schedule delays. #LI-SM2
Major Responsibilities:
- Manages daily labor relations activities on construction projects and operating facilities and provides advice and guidance to labor relations personnel in the resolution of labor disputes, grievances, and work stoppages to prevent construction schedule delays, including LR/IR/WFS Managers and/or site construction managers
- Represents Bechtel in meetings with international union officials and in business development meetings with potential clients and manages the preparation of information and data to be discussed at these meetings
- Manages the development and approves the preparation of labor and construction industry studies for presentation to various internal and external clients
- Reviews the research and collection of data input for special labor studies
- Leads LR/IR/WFS teams and change management in LR/IR/WFS, on project, and within Bechtel
- Reviews policies and practices and recommends changes and ensures that LR/IR/WFS activities conform to company and site policies/procedures and legal requirements
- Remains cognizant of labor laws and related legislation applicable to manual construction employees
- Supervises the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives with construction management
- Ensures projects develop and implement communication plans to ensure craft employees and IR personnel are kept apprised of any changes that may impact them
- Collaborates with Craft Employee Relations, Workforce Development, Recruiting, Business Development and/or Shared Services, ES&H and Legal
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong analytical, research, and quantitative skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data visualisation tools such as Power BI.
- Excellent research, analytical, writing, and quantitative skills.
- Must be adept at building working relationships in order to facilitate work and be a proactive team player who has demonstrated success in taking initiative to accomplish tasks.
- Exceptional interpersonal (communications, conflict management, negotiation) and facilitation skills for working with diverse populations and management styles.
- Strong leader with collaborative style working well with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to work independently on complex projects with minimal supervision. Ability to plan projects, develop milestones and meet specific deadlines.
- Experience working in and effectively leading cross functional team
