Role Overview: Veterans L&D/OD Program Specialist

 

The specialist will be responsible for overseeing the onboarding and strategic preparation of special forces and other veterans to ensure their smooth inculturation into corporate life. This person will conduct leadership programming and then “follow’ the veteran over the first 6 months or so of their rotations/development and to their ultimate position within Bechtel. The role will partner with Talent Acquisition to strategically source and recruit veterans as part of our core commitment to the men and women who have served our country. The person in this key role will interpret the results of our employee engagement survey, various psychometrics, focus groups etc. and develop and lead responsive improvement/development plans.

 

This position will be located in Reston, VA, Glendale, AZ or Houston, TX.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to help source and recruit key Veteran talent to Bechtel.
  • Make short- and long-term recommendations to continually improve the value of the cohort program to our Special Forces and other veteran recruits
  • Ensure that the program achieves enculturation and engagement goals.
  • Lead the strategic onboarding program to cover Learning, Leadership Development and Performance
  • Establish metrics for gauging the success of the Veteran’s Program to the participants, supervisors, and to Bechtel
  • Lead a Bi-monthly cohort learning circles and check-in with participants to exchange experiences
  • Introduce and pair participants with seasoned Bechtel mentors and monitor progress
  • Conduct the Insights Discovery assessment for participants and coach them on their preferred styles, the styles of others, and areas of potential growth
  • Conduct the Hogan Leadership suite of assessments and coach participants on their strengths, potential derailers, and motives/values/preferences. Facilitate the participants generation of robust development plans
  • Routinely conduct transitional, developmental and career coaching

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Human Resources, Organizational Behavior or related field plus five plus years of professional experience
  • Knowledge of Learning and Development, Leadership Development, Culture, Employee Engagement, and Diversity & Inclusion
  • Strong networking and collaboration skills
  • Strong communication, relationship building, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex organizations and the fluidity of matrix structures.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Strong initiative and excellent judgement
  • Ability to travel approximately 10 – 20%

 

Preferred Qualifications;

  • Prior experience leading a Veterans Business Onboarding Program
  • Experience serving in the US Military
  • Understanding of L&D and OD best practices
  • Leadership and Team Coaching experience
  • Ability to present new L&D and OD concepts and improvements to Leadership and the CoE (Center of Expertise)
