About the GPD Team:
Established in early 2026 through the combination of three separate Bechtel Enterprises teams focused on renewable, thermal and nuclear power, respectively, the GPD team seeks to be responsive to market demands for both firm and intermittent power resources, following market signals without internal preference for a particular generation technology. The GPD strategy is focused primarily on developments in the U.S., but certain other global markets could be in scope, so long as there is clear, upfront alignment with the strategy of the relevant GBU. The GPD team develops projects with the aim of recovering development costs, earning a development fee and securing on behalf of Bechtel the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the developed project.
Job Summary:
Joining the GPD team as Senior Manager & Head of Operations and Functions is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. The Senior Manager must be a talented and energetic individual who will manage a team that provides functional expertise to support the development of gas, solar, hybrid and nuclear power across the US and, potentially, overseas. In addition to the role’s supervisorial responsibilities, the Senior Manager will be a key business partner to the Head of Global Power Development as head of GPD team operations. The position reports to the Head of Global Power Development.
Functions: The position will be responsible for managing the functional team across the full suite of support services for existing projects in GPD’s portfolio and new projects (new greenfield sites and acquisition targets). Direct reports within the functions team have responsibility for site acquisition, project permitting, engineering and design support and project commercialization. The Senior Manager will work closely with our project development, project finance, legal, and EPC teams to shepherd development projects as they advance to a project’s final notice to proceed to construction.
Operations: The position will partner with the Head of Global Power Development to manage day-to-day operations of the GPD team, including, by way of example, responsibility for staff meetings, offsites, reports and other communications issued by the GPD team (management approval letters, screening requests, investment committee updates, etc.), team conference participation and GPD internal and project budget management and reporting.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership” #LI-AM3
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee and directly manage the functional team to advance existing power development projects from early-, mid-, and/or late-stage development to construction-ready status according to the agreed project schedule
- Support direct reports (including through personal participation in the work, where necessary) in handling major initiatives such as land acquisition campaigns, complex lease negotiations, permit applications and other development activities
- Organize weekly all-hands staff meetings and GPD leadership team meetings
- In close coordination with Head of Global Power Development, oversee planning for annual GPD all-hands offsite and periodic GPD leadership team offsites; in years when GPD is responsible for planning the Bechtel Enterprises offsite, provide hands-on support to Head of Global Power Development
- Manage GPD internal budget and impose budget discipline on project development teams through oversight
- Drive excellence, rigor and consistency in reporting and approval request materials (e.g., management approval letters, investment committee reports, screening requests), including by holding the pen as necessary
- Share project development knowledge/experience throughout the GPD team (and broader Bechtel organization)
- Interface with Bechtel senior management to discuss progress of key project milestones and project commercialization efforts
- Put in place management tools, processes, and procedures required to support the technical and project commercialization needs and operational excellence requirements of a growing nationwide power development portfolio and GPD team
- Work collaboratively with internal project development team, financial modeling team, and EPC team
- Participate in GPD senior leadership meetings
- Arrange and oversee appropriate technical support for international project development opportunities as they arise
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Typically requires bachelor’s or masters degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of experience or 17-19 years of relevant works experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Meaningful experience in a project development environment.
- Experience directly managing a team of technical experts
- Experience interfacing directly with senior management
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellence in written communications
- Experience managing budgets
- Familiarity with business line operations
- Willingness to travel as necessary
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance-related field
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working directly with project engineering and EPC teams
