Job Summary:

Joining the GPD team as a Senior Development Manager is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. The Senior Development Manager must be a talented and energetic individual who will lead solar and hybrid development projects across the US. The position reports to the Head of Global Power Development and will directly manage an internal project development team.

 

The position will be responsible for overseeing the development team across the full suite of development activities for existing projects in GPD’s solar portfolio and new projects (new greenfield sites and acquisition targets). This will include leading site identification and site control, interconnection and transmission work, project permitting, and community engagement. The Senior Development Manager will work closely with our internal power marketing/origination, project finance, legal, and EPC teams to shepherd development projects as they advance to a project’s final notice to proceed to construction.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership #LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and directly manage the development team to advance existing solar projects from early-, mid-, and/or late-stage development to construction-ready status according to, and with accountability for, budget and schedule.
  • Working with the Manager of Offtake and Markets, secure power offtake for each project.
  • Participate in setting and implementing strategy to identify new development prospects and opportunities (greenfield sites and/or acquisition targets), including conducting market assessments, fatal flaw analyses, in-person site reconnaissance, and negotiating purchase & sale and/or joint development agreements.
  • Share project development knowledge/experience throughout the GPD team (and broader Bechtel organization).
  • Interface with Bechtel senior management to discuss progress of GPD buildout, key project milestones, and financial requirements to continue to advance the GPD vision.
  • Put in place management tools, processes, and procedures required to operate and expand a nationwide power development portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with internal power marketing team, financial modeling team, and EPC team.
  • Participate in GPD senior leadership meetings.
  • As they arise, support international renewables opportunities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance-related field and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Meaningful experience in a power project development environment"
  • Experience directly managing a power project development team
  • Experience interfacing directly with senior management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience identifying and securing new prospects and opportunities (e.g. greenfield sites and acquisitions)
  • Willingness to travel as necessary

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solar project development experience (battery storage and gas experience is a plus)
  • Experience working directly with project engineering and EPC teams
  • Experience in multiple U.S. RTO markets
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field, MBA or JD
