Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure.  GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent.  As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Role Overview:

This role will support design development Blast engineering designs for the GBSD program project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.  Work with other Blast and Structural engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop blast designs and make recommendations to management, the customer and the Air Force. and recommendations associated with the Blast Design
  • Assis in coordination of physical testing.
  • Perform blast analytical and SSI analysis.
  • Development of concrete and steel structural design and drawings, including seismic.
  • Foundation design and drawings.
  • Assist with boring oversight and walkdowns of existing facilities.
  • Perform formal calculations and drawings.
  • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
  • Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering (Structural or related), from an accredited university, with at least 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Registered Civil or Structural Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the United States.
  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Blast Software and SASSI.
  • Experience with Microsoft office programs, VISIO, and other common computer programs.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Structural engineering design principles.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Structural or related Engineering, from an accredited university.
  • Author Papers, research articles and/or have memberships in related committees.
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
  • Experience with use or knowledge of Revit.
  • Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
