Bechtel Enterprises:
Bechtel Enterprises (BEn) is the project development, finance, and equity group in Bechtel. Established in 1969, our primary objective is to develop, help finance, structure commercial arrangements, and/or invest equity in projects to create design, construction or project management opportunities for Bechtel. We have developed or co-developed over 70 projects ($46 billion in project costs) and have helped arrange over $54 billion in financing for Bechtel projects, including over 18,000 MW of power projects across 10 countries. We also innovate commercial models and facilitate Bechtel’s collaborations with private capital funds. Our group is unique in the US engineering and construction industry given our long history and global presence. In addition, BEn also gets involved in M&A and project acquisition activities, across power, energy, transportation, communication, and other sectors. Job Summary:
In this role, you serve as the principal deputy in leading the Bechtel Enterprises (BEn) Private Capital Partnerships (PCP) team. The role will focus on, but is not limited to, driving the development and scaling of the Private Capital Partnerships (PCP) Initiative across the Bechtel group of companies, with a particular emphasis on the Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) and Infrastructure global business units (GBUs). The role will also be responsible for managing all operations of the fast-growing PCP team, including personnel, budgets, and achievement of annual goals/key performance indicators (KPIs), and it will be the primary focal point for Bechtel’s internal governance and risk management processes. This role is an opportunity for a visionary leader to drive innovative growth strategies, strengthen global partnerships, and deliver tangible results that shape Bechtel’s future across the company.
- Creating and driving enterprise-level PCP relationships, including building and maintaining relationships with key external private capital partners and negotiating relevant agreements and contracts that will underpin these relationships and generate new work booked for Bechtel
- Driving a private capital partnerships (PCPs) strategy that integrates external insights relating to private capital and serves to expand business opportunities, with a particular focus on the M&T and Infrastructure GBUs as well as any other cross-GBU opportunities
- Initiating, developing, and helping to drive PCP and non-PCP strategic collaborations to create privileged relationships and front-end opportunities upstream of EPC work, including development of new and innovative commercial models
- Managing relationships with key private capital fund leaders across Sovereign Wealth Funds, Pension Funds, and infrastructure/private equity funds
- Developing and orchestrating new joint BEn/GBU solutions for customers, ultimately resulting in new sources of profitable revenue;
- Facilitating BEn services (e.g., financial services) support for the GBU
- Managing the internal operations of the PCP team, including recruitment and performance management of personnel in collaboration with the Managing Director, development and management of budgets, delivery on annual goals, and contributions to executive-level meetings (e.g. Annual Strategy Review, Operating Committee, Finance Committee)
- Leading and serving as the PCP focal point for all internal governance and risk management processes applicable to the PCP team, in particular the Management Approval Letter (MAL) process. Ensures that management and completion of these processes is aligned with external-facing negotiations and customer deliverables
This is a high-impact senior leadership role that will shape BEn’s approach to PCPs, strategic engagements, and inorganic growth across Bechtel. The role requires a dynamic leader with deep, senior-level relationships externally, including within PCP organizations which are priority focuses for Bechtel. A strong understanding of the company’s value proposition, project delivery, internal governance and risk management, and M&T / Infrastructure markets are also pre-requisites. Further, you will have a skill base and track record of successful project delivery and leading initiatives in collaboration with senior leaders across the BGI enterprise in a collaborative and trust-based fashion. Legal and commercial acumen, an existing deep and trustworthy network, a track record of leading people and followership within Bechtel, and strong relationship management and customer-facing skills are additional prerequisites.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Partnership Development and Execution
- Serve as the principal focal point for external private capital partners in the development of cross-GBU enterprise-level partnerships.
- Lead the sourcing, shaping, and execution of strategic partnerships backed by private capital.
- Support development of customer-facing engagement plans up to the involvement of the Bechtel Chairman and CEO.
- Expand the prospect pipeline and hit rate of prospects through these strategic partnerships
- Shape and unlock capital project opportunities both domestically and internationally.
2. Management and Operations
- As Operations Manager, lead the day-to-day management of the PCP team. This includes performance management processes, professional development, team culture and alignment, and recruitment, in collaboration with the Managing Director.
- Develop annual budgets / overhead spend, track spend, and ensure alignment of budgets with overall priorities.
- Develop and ensure achievement of annual goals / key performance indicators.
- Lead all internal governance and risk management processes in alignment with external-facing discussions and customer deliverables.
3. External and Internal Stakeholder Management
- Lead management of cross-GBU PCP customer relationships.
- Establish, develop, and maintain deep and trustworthy relationships with PCPs and Strategic Partners.
- Increase opportunities for collaboration and position the PCP team as a trusted partner in the industry.
- Expand GBU relationships with PCPs by engaging in dialogue and relationship building, with a particular focus on Manufacturing & Technology (M&T) and Infrastructure.
- Be a visible resource to GBUs across Bechtel and identify new opportunities for the PCP team to support the GBUs in winning new EPC projects.
- Provide relevant insights on private capital to BEn and GBU stakeholders.
4. Joint BEn/GBU Solution development
- Lead the development and execution of integrated technical, commercial, and business solutions for customers resulting in new sources of RGM.
- Lead the structuring of creative integrated commercial arrangements to enable long-term partnerships.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) required.
- [15-20] years of relevant experience in advanced manufacturing / technology, infrastructure, or related industries.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with external stakeholders, bankers, including customers, partners, OEMs, technology providers, government officials, consultants, and advisors.
- Experience managing teams and structuring work to access customer opportunities.
- Experience structuring work to access customer opportunities.
- Track record originating, structuring, and executing complex commercial agreements.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills: track record of independently leading teams to structure analyses and build insights, particularly in ambiguous or high-stakes situations.
- Ability to build and execute strategies for building growth businesses, in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent executive-level communication skills both written and verbal, and graphic presentation skills with the ability to synthesize and tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills to engage senior leaders across GBUs, BGI, and external organizations.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
