Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Job Summary:
The Senior Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer is at the core of Bechtel’s data centric delivery model and is responsible for understanding the relevant stakeholder information required to deliver the Project and identifying how these outputs will be met through the Project Information Model (PIM). The Senior VDC Engineer is responsible to provide cross-functional coordination and methods of integration in alignment with NS&E’s Data Centric Project Delivery Program, including, but not limited to, 3D Model Development, 4D Integrated Schedule, Common Data Environment (CDE) alignment, and support the development of an innovative culture on Project.
The Senior VDC Engineer implements the project VDC Strategy and supports the development and implementation of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Execution Plan (BEP), and the Project Information Model (PIM) on the Project in accordance with Bechtel standards, functional needs, and client information requirements to describe the way in which the Project will achieve data centric delivery successfully.
The Senior VDC Engineer reports to the VDC Manager and Works closely with the Project Controls Manager to ensure the Project VDC Strategy and BEP are aligned and executed in a way that supports the Project Execution Plan (PEP). Maintains effective contact with key project functional leads including the Management, Procurement, Project Controls, Contracts, IS&T, Construction, Start-Up, and Commissioning functions. Coordinates with Engineering, Procurement and Construction and participates in meetings and discussions related to VDC. Generate/ update “gap” modelling as necessary to support construction flow. #LI-KL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements the Project VDC Strategy and BEP through the project execution.
- Builds innovative metrics and dashboards to support faster and better decision making on project while promoting a strong user experience
- Builds Interactive 4D visuals combining the project model and project schedule
- Develops use case models and prototypes to enhance analytics and insights related to project controls through the use of dynamic information streams.
- Ensures the implementation of the CDE, including relevant standards on its use and its application across the project.
- Coordinates with Project Controls and Construction on the development of advanced work packages and ensures continuity and that an appropriate level of detail is produced to support each of the project phases.
- Ensures adequate training is provided on the use of VDC and associated tools to assist its deployment, including engagement with off-project subject matter experts.
- Ensures the project meets the client information requirements, Bechtel information requirements, and industry wide standards (i.e., ISO-19650).
- Champions VDC innovation across the project by establishing a culture for ideas and improvement opportunities to be raised, considered, and implemented.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Level I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and at least 3 years of professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 9 years of professional experience.
- Level II: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and at least 8 years of professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 12 years of professional experience.
- Possess the legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must be able to pass nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check including verification of employment, education, and travel.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with creating cross-functional and cross-project dashboards using Power BI.
- Experience implementing VDC processes on large scale (50m) construction sites, using schedule/ model integration platforms. Synchro Pro, Fuzor, and/or Navisworks.
- Automation or Information Systems experience with a passion for implementing new and innovative work processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities to engage and influence project execution teams.
- Experience developing VDC goals for construction projects.
- Significant experience in working with PowerBI and other data analytic software,
- Significant experience developing 4D scenarios on construction projects.
- Experience with 3D model authoring tools (i.e., Revit, Civil3D, Microstation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads/InRoads, ESRi, AVEVA E3D, etc.).
- Significant Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Procurement, Automation, or Information Systems experience with a passion for implementing new and innovative work processes.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to explain new work processes and technologies to all levels of the organization.
- Self-motivated with outstanding leadership skills and the ability to influence without authority.
- Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities with demonstrated experience providing direction/supervising a team.
