Project Overview

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This role will be based in Reston, VA, with periodic business travel to Poland offices and sites as required.

 

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Reston, Virginia project office.  Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

 

Position Summary

This position will report to the Plant Design Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS) or Deputy EGS.

 

Responsibilities

  • 3D modeling of piping systems and equipment in a 3D model environment.
  • Prepare drawings/documents for plot plans/general arrangements and piping isometrics drawings.
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e., input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
  • Assist with plans and schedules and prepare/maintain design procedures, standards to provide quality design documents.
  • Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
  • Perform coordination review of specifications and vendor documents as required.
  • Ensure adherence to piping codes such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 8 years of experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 12 years of related experience.
  • Level 2: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 11 years of experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 15 years of related experience.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience using a 3D piping design platform such E3D/PDMS, SmartPlant, PlantSpace, etc.
  • Hands-on experience using a 3D isometric extraction program.
  • Extensive knowledge & application of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior nuclear piping and layout experience.
  • Previous Bechtel Engineering project experience.
