Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer to join the Infrastructure Planning and Development Group (IPDG) within the Infrastructure GBU. Senior Industrial Engineer would be responsible for both managing and producing studies or portions of studies, master plans, and related proposals, and would have broad experience in the planning, design, and delivery of industrial facilities and associated utilities systems and logistics infrastructure. Provides strategic and technical support for early-stage infrastructure development programs and schemes. The role features a unique opportunity to shape and implement Bechtel’s approach to connected infrastructure strategies that will change the way we live and work.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervises or executes the planning activity on a project, or designated portions of a project or study related to the early-stage planning of industrial and utilities infrastructure, often associated with large-scale and multi-sector industrial complexes or cities.
  • Plans, manages, and executes assignments related to industrial facility planning, utility systems planning, energy transition planning, land use planning, transportation & logistics planning, scenario development and analysis, environmental and sustainability planning, sector research and economic analysis.
  • Manages the development of industrial models for large-scale and multi-sector industrial complexes or cities, that provides a projection of product types and quantities and defines the associated land area, utilities, waste, logistics, and personnel requirements.
  • Manages the development of utilities system plans and waste management plans for large-scale and multi-sector industrial complexes or cities.
  • Manages and participates in the development and evaluation of alternative land use concepts and configurations for large-scale and multi-sector industrial complexes or citiies.
  • High-level engagement with clients to understand their needs and requirements in order to provide planning / design / feasibility solutions in a multi-disciplinary / multi-sectoral context.
  • Participates in the composition of reports and presentations, including the production of drawings, maps, figures, tables, graphs, and 3D imagery
  • As directed, manages the complex organizational interactions that may evolve from the participation of several Bechtel industry groups (such as energy, mining and minerals, or manufacturing and technology) on a project.
  • Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the planning effort.
  • Familiar with associated disciplines (architecture, engineering, urban design, environmental science, and business planning) in order to manage others (both internal and consultants).
  • Participates in proposal preparation and presentations to potential customers.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Master’s degree is preferred (but not mandatory) in a related discipline such as Engineering, Urban Planning, Economics, Business Administration, or Architecture.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the delivery of major industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in early-stage engineering and planning studies related to the development of large-scale industrial infrastructure and associated utilities, logistics, and waste systems.
  • Experience in managing the development of industrial models is preferred.
  • Experience is desirable in utility systems planning, including most of the following: power generation (conventional and renewables), transmission and distribution, seawater desalination and seawater cooling systems, fuel and industrial gas pipeline systems, and waste and wastewater management systems.  
  • Experience across multiple engineering disciplines and industrial sectors.
  • Experience in most of the following fields is desirable: engineering, oil & gas, minerals & metals, power generation & transmission, energy transition industries (e.g. green hydrogen, carbon capture), transportation infrastructure, port facility planning, community planning, economics, architecture, and public policy.
  • Advanced communication skills with demonstrated ability in making presentations to customers and management.
  • Advanced report writing skills for the production of detailed but accessible technical reports that cater to a diverse audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite of applications – specifically Word, Powerpoint and Excel – for the production of high-quality reports and presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Familiar with Computer Aided Design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Infraworks; 3D and 4D modeling software such as SketchUp Pro, Syncro 4D, and Twinmotion.
  • Ability to listen and to understand customer challenges, supporting their early stage thinking as they plan procurements and applying a collaborative approach to customer relationships.
  • Ability to develop new propositions and to work with customers to shape potential prospects, including the ability to develop creative solutions and “connect dots” through disparate information.
  • Ability to sell Bechtel’s value proposition, execution approach and commercial offering to customers based on a deep understanding of major project delivery.
  • Self-directed, requires limited daily supervision or guidance.
  • Responsive to internal and external customers with consistent follow-up and follow-through.
