Position Summary:

Bechtel is currently seeking a Facilities Designer to join our Corporate Facilities team.  The location for this role will be based in Reston, Virginia with providing support to both the Reston and Washington DC office locations. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing a variety of facility management and office services functions which include daily office operations and services, space design, vendor contracts, space management, landlord coordination, ensuring adherence to office safety and security requirements and other services related to daily office/facility operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates detailed phases of the facilities office designs, construction, major moves, renovation activities, space allocation, furniture and equipment control and disbursement, requires significant judgement and experience.
  • Assists with preparation of designs, layouts, detail drawings and specifications requiring the knowledge of architectural tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand space requirements, workflow processes and objectives.
  • Conduct space evaluations and assessments to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Develop comprehensive facility plans, including layout designs, space allocations, and furniture equipment recommendations.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed floor plans and conceptual drawings.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in facility planning and design.  
  • Helps determine subcontractor and resource requirements for various facility projects.
  • Helps coordinate all design and construction with office services staff, or suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Identifies ways to help reduce costs and improve efficiency when planning facility projects.
  • Supports colleagues in a range of facility duties such as relocating furniture, handling maintenance inquires and installing office signage/whiteboard/artwork.
  • Assists with executing service contracts for the facility.
  • Oversees multiple complex office services functions with minimal guidance and exercises discretion and independent judgement in performance and prioritization of assigned duties.
  • Develops and implements new or improved systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate and interface with the landlord and building engineers.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness documentation and planning for the office.


Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 6 years work experience in facility or office management, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in CAD and space planning software.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active accreditation as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM), certified BOMA Real Property Administrator, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards, practices, and regulatory requirements related to facility management and office services.
  • Ability to interface effectively in managing and administering contracts with suppliers, contractors, and key industry partners related to facility operations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently as needed without direct supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels.
