Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. Job Summary:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you must have solid experience in electrical systems and layout design. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and a commitment to quality. The candidate will work with electrical engineers, designers, and other technical disciplines in a team environment
Individual must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line drawings, schematics, and be able to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions and system descriptions related to design tasks.
Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures.
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a small size project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications.
Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
Completes electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs Electrical Systems engineering activities, which may include the use of ETAP.
- Individuals must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line drawings, schematics, and be able to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations.
- Works under the direction of Engineering Group Supervisor.
- Performs special tasks, calculations/studies and user guides.
- Responsible for producing basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope.
- Conduct checking as required.
- Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions and system descriptions related to design tasks.
- Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team.
- Must be able to work well with other disciplines.
- Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs.
- Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Professional Engineering License (Electrical).
- Prior experience working in a Nuclear, Quality and Safety Environment.
- Experience in nuclear plant design (power plant or DOE facility).
- Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
- Extensive knowledge application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing and cable sizing.
- Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge with ETAP and other industry-wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D, cable designing and routing software.
- Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
- Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.
- Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
- Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
- Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.
- Experience with Nuclear Power Plant Design.
