Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Job Summary:
This role will support design development of architectural designs for the project site by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other architects, engineers and designers and other technical disciplines in a team environment.
The role is at the Reston, Virginia office.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the architectural work for a small size project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
- Develops and interprets design criteria and specifications for complex architectural infrastructure. Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
- Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-ofs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
- Prepares letters to vendors and clients
- Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendations
- Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
- Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
- Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations
- When delegated, provides guidance to other architectural personnel for specific tasks or project-subgroups. Reviews and checks work of others as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates conceptual and detailed phases of the architectural work to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
- Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
- Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
- Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, procurement, and other functional groups
- Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations
- When delegated, provides guidance to other architectural personnel for specific tasks or project-subgroups
- Performs building code analyses and compliance, 3D modeling and renderings
- Provides technical assistance to other Architectural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
- Assist in constructability reviews
- Prepares project designs and plans using 3D modeling software
- Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports
- Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate architects and designers
- Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
