Senior Piping Designer, Off Site Manufacturing

Essential Job Duties:

Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews engineering work, such as engineering drawings, calculations and bid summaries, within Plant Design and Piping discipline on projects of medium size and complexity or assignments in support of multiple business units. Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of engineering analyses. Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline and represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions. Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management. Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly. Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators) and coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval on phases of work. Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups. Provides technical guidance and interfaces with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters, in addition to mentoring them through provision of appropriate on-the-job training. Maintains contacts, as directed, with client representatives, suppliers, appropriate field personnel and other disciplines.


Regular duties include:

  • Understanding customer requirements and converting them into design criteria for plant design and piping.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Knowledge of plant layout and piping as it relates to vendor skid modules.
  • Producing key plant design and piping engineering deliverables, including CADD models, drawings, specifications, and supporting calculations.
  • Reviewing and checking the work of subordinate engineers and/or subcontractors.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
  • Managing engineering subcontracts with their design and delivery per contract requirements.
  • Review of contractor shop drawings, technical submittals and proposals for compliance with project design requirements.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Broad progressive work experience in design or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.
  • Experience in managing engineering subcontracts with design and delivery per contract requirements.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the design of mechanical systems, including ASHRAE, ASME, IBC, IMC and NFPA.
  • Knowledge on semiconductor manufacturing design process as an advantage for all positions.
  • Ability to review and manipulate CADD models.
  • Ability to work in S3D or Plant3d environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
