Project Overview:

The Infrastructure GBU’s, Renewables & Clean Power business line is pursuing future combined cycle power plant projects. The business line is assembling an execution team to be based in Reston, VA. This position may require travel to projects on business trips to support project and business line needs.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical SME - HRSG initiates the Constructability Program process and schedule, identifying construction related requirements to other functions in time to support their estimating efforts during project development/Front-End Engineering and Design. The SME then assists projects during all phases of the project traveling to project sites as needed to assist with program audits, training, constructability input and periodic reviews. The SME acts as a point of contact for projects assisting with HRSG related project implementation. The SME will ensure consistency of HRSG builds between projects documenting lessons learned and best practices. 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Travels to projects as needed to assist with quality audits, training and constructability review and planning.
  • Supports the functions and as needed develops enterprise-wide processes and procedures to update the procedures accordingly.
  • Coordinates with projects to implement Quality Management System as it pertains to their area of expertise.
  • Sponsors and develops enterprise applications, licenses, and certifications.
  • Assists in and may lead proposal effort providing guidance on executing approved constructability ideas and plans.
  • Maintains effective interface with Home office construction team and jobsite team ensuring construction’s requirements are communicated to Engineering teams.
  • Reviews construction engineering deliverables on the project such as, Work Packages and Test Packages.
  • Implements TIC improvement ideas. Reviews and implements Construction lessons learned from past projects.
  • Coordinates Material Assignment Schedule with engineering counterpart.

Planning:

  • Initiates the Constructability Program process and schedule, identifying construction related requirements to other functions in time to support their estimating efforts during project development/Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase.
  • Participates and may lead construction related design decisions by providing Construction’s perspective to schedules, design deliverables, equipment purchases, degree of shop fabrication, and equipment delivery configuration and sequence.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of variable factors Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results Networks with key contacts in own area of expertise and may network with contacts outside own area of expertise.

Safety/Quality:

  • Leads and participates in 3D Model reviews and interdisciplinary coordination reviews of design drawings and ensures design is safe, constructible, and cost effective.
  • Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by field operations and others when in the operational area.

Technical:

  • Provides knowledge and expertise in erection of Heat Recovery Steam Generator(s) and the processes required for construction.
  • Supports Bechtel projects worldwide assisting with the development and delivery of constructability awareness training and/or enterprise or project supervisory and technical training.
  • Supports HRSG Advance Work Packaging (AWP) efforts and supports projects in scoping efforts.
  • Provides technical & construction input into project construction sequencing of HRSG builds including construction sequences, storyboard creation and heavy lift planning.
  • Provides guidance and optimized modularization efforts of HRSG builds.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with Heat Recovery Steam Generators is required. 
     

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of HRSG design types & functional processes, ASME code, erection procedures & planning and commissioning processes is preferred.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
