Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the development of Mechanical systems and equipment for the Poland Nuclear project by preparing studies, piping and instrumentation diagrams, calculations, engineering specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, performing technical bid evaluations, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. This position will require working with other functions and disciplines in a team environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts mechanical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Coordinate within the mechanical group and other disciplines/functions in developing system designs including but not limited to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and engineering specifications.
  • Supports the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Conducts or supports special studies of new mechanical engineering methods, materials and techniques
  • Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline including any required interface with other disciplines, functions, vendors, and/or client.
  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering with a minimum of 1 year of relevant professional work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the U.S. without sponsorship. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
  • Some knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Some knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.
